Web - cancel in your account

1. Go to your Academia account and sign in.
2. Open Account Settings then Subscriptions or Billing.
3. Choose the active Premium subscription and click Cancel or turn off auto-renewal.
4. Save changes and take a screenshot of the final screen.

iOS - cancel via Apple

1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap your name, then Subscriptions.
3. Find Academia Premium and tap Cancel Subscription.
4. Your cancellation is handled by Apple; Academia cannot process App Store refunds.
5. Keep the Apple confirmation email as proof.

Android - cancel via Google Play

1. Open the Google Play Store app.
2. Tap Menu then Subscriptions.
3. Select Academia and tap Cancel subscription.
4. Save the Google Play confirmation email or screenshot.

Email cancellation

1. Compose an email to [email protected] with subject line "Cancel Academia Premium - [Your email address]".
2. Include your account email, last 4 digits of card used and request to cancel auto-renewal immediately.
3. Save a copy of the sent message and any reply.

Post - registered letter

1. Write a clear cancellation declaration including account email and request to cancel auto-renewal.
2. Send by registered post to Academia, Western Road, PO6 3EN Portsmouth, United Kingdom.
3. Keep the proof of posting and signed delivery receipt.

Moving abroad or permanent relocation

Rule: If your move affects your right to access the service or if a contract term relies on local availability, notify Academia and request cancellation with evidence. Price increase

End of commitment

Rule: For fixed-term annual subscriptions, cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. Required proof: subscription invoice or receipt and account details. Applicable law: contract terms and Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Cooling-off and trial cancellation

Rule: For online purchases you have cancellation rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 where the 14-day cooling-off right applies, except where digital content download began with your express consent. Academia offers a 30-day refund guarantee on new trials and first year payments for eligible purchases. Required proof: purchase receipt and request within 30 days. Before you cancel: negotiate

Retention offers reported: research does not report specific publicly available retention discounts from Academia. If you want to ask for a retention offer, write an email to [email protected] or use the account chat and state you wish to cancel because of price, then request a discount or a switch to annual billing. Key UK consumer law

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 provide a 14-day cooling-off right for many online purchases, except where digital content has been downloaded after your express consent. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 includes renewal cooling-off provisions relevant to subscription renewals.

Cooling-off and auto-renewal

The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 requires traders to give a cooling-off notice at the start of each renewal cooling-off period. Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you may have a 14-day cancellation right for online purchases unless you accepted immediate access to digital content.

When you have a dispute

Step 1: Complain to Academia first by email or through your account. Step 2: If you cannot resolve the dispute, use Citizens Advice for guidance and then escalate to the relevant ombudsman or use bank chargeback or Section 75 for qualifying card payments. Access and features after cancellation

When you cancel, your cancellation becomes effective at the end of your current paid subscription period and you retain access until that date. If you cancelled within trial 30 days and meet the refund guarantee, you may receive a refund per Academia policy.

Data and account

Cancellation does not delete your Academia account. If you want account deletion, request it separately in writing to [email protected] or use account settings. Save copies of any papers or profile data you need before requesting deletion.

Final billing and refunds

Refunds: Academia offers a 30-day refund guarantee for new trials and first-year payments except for purchases made via Apple iOS in-app. If you cancel an installment plan after 30 days you may owe 50% of remaining unpaid balance per Academia's terms. Re-activation

Re-activation is normally done by signing into your account and subscribing again. If you cancelled an Apple in-app subscription you must re-subscribe through the App Store.
