Overview

NASUWT is a United Kingdom trade union for teachers and head teachers. It offers membership categories for full time teachers, early career teachers, part-time staff, students, retired members and staff on career break.

Web (online contact form)

1. Open the NASUWT subscriptions or contact pages: https://www.nasuwt.org.uk/about-us/subscriptions.html.
2. Locate the Membership Team contact form or membership contact instructions.
3. Write a clear statement: "I wish to resign my NASUWT membership" with your full name, membership number if known, workplace and signature (typed is acceptable for email/web).
4. Submit and keep a screenshot or copy of the confirmation page.

Email

1. Send an email to the Membership Team at the official address for membership matters (use the address on your membership documentation or the contact pages).
2. Subject line example: "Resignation of NASUWT membership - [Your full name]".
3. Include date of resignation, full name, membership number, workplace and a clear sentence: "I give notice of my resignation from NASUWT with immediate effect" (or state an effective date).
4. Keep the sent message and request an acknowledgement by return email.

Post

1. Prepare a signed letter addressed to the General Secretary at the NASUWT headquarters: "I hereby resign my NASUWT membership effective [date]." Include membership number and contact details.
2. Send by registered post to: NASUWT, Hillscourt Education Centre, Rose Hill, B45 8RS Birmingham, United Kingdom.
3. Retain the postal tracking receipt and a scanned copy of the signed letter.

Phone

1. Call the NASUWT contact numbers found on the official site to speak with the Membership Team.
2. Record the date and the name of the staff member you spoke with.
3. Follow up your call immediately with written resignation by email or post, quoting the call details.

Moving / relocation

If you are moving workplace or relocating, NASUWT allows members to update membership category or resign. Provide written notice of resignation by email or post. Required documents: proof of new workplace or proof of relocation if requested by NASUWT. Price increase

If NASUWT increases subscription fees, members should be told the change in advance on renewal. If a fee increase results in an automatic renewal you do not accept, you may cancel by making a clear statement. Death of the subscriber

In case of a member's death, the estate or next of kin should notify NASUWT in writing and can request termination of membership. Required documents: death certificate and proof of relationship. Legitimate grounds accepted by NASUWT

End of commitment

NASUWT subscriptions do not list a fixed minimum contract period. If you wish to stop membership, give written notice to the General Secretary. Required documents: your membership record. If no explicit notice period is published by NASUWT, send notice as early as possible and keep proof of delivery.

Cooling-off (statutory rights)

If your membership started online or away from NASUWT premises, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 provide a 14-day cooling-off period in many cases. Before cancelling: negotiate

Example savings if you cancel full annual membership:

• Full membership (with Political Fund): £242.36 per year. Calculation: £242.36 per year saved when cancelled.
• Part-time 50% membership: £121.18 per year. Calculation: £121.18 per year.
• Retired membership: £25.00 per year. Calculation: £25.00 per year.

Consumer law and regulators

For subscription contracts in the United Kingdom, relevant laws include the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 (14-day cooling-off for many online/off-premises contracts) and the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill; unfair contract terms are not binding). The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) enforces rules on unfair auto-renewal and hard-to-cancel subscriptions.

Cooling-off and cancellation rights

The 14-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 applies where the contract was concluded online or off premises, with a right to cancel and receive a refund for qualifying purchases. If NASUWT took payment online and the cooling-off rules apply, notify NASUWT within 14 days with a clear statement to cancel.

Escalation steps

1) Complain to NASUWT via the Membership Team and keep written records. 2) If unresolved, seek guidance from Citizens Advice and consider escalation to Trading Standards or the Competition and Markets Authority for unfair contract terms. 3) For card payments, consider chargeback with your card issuer or Section 75 for qualifying credit card transactions. Check final billing

Confirm whether any payment is due or refundable. NASUWT publicly states that subscriptions are not refundable upon resignation. If you believe you are entitled to a statutory refund (for example under the 14-day cooling-off right), include that reference in your cancellation request.

Access and cover after cancellation

Ask NASUWT to confirm the final effective date of membership and any changes to legal or casework cover. Keep written confirmation of the effective termination date to show the date NASUWT ceased to provide cover.

Data and re-activation

Request confirmation of the personal data NASUWT will retain and the process to rejoin. If you later rejoin, membership rates and promotional offers may differ from your previous subscription.

Follow this checklist to cancel and protect yourself:
