Cooling-off period (14 days)
Rule: Members have a 14-day cooling-off period from the acceptance date during which they can cancel without giving a reason by completing the online cancellation form or by emailing the Membership Email. The University will reimburse any membership payments received for cancellations in the cooling-off period. Refunds for cooling-off cancellations can be collected at reception or by calling 0113 343 5095. Leaving the University / end of study or employment
Rule: If a University of Leeds student finishes or permanently withdraws from their program, or a staff member ceases employment within 6 months of accepting the agreement, a percentage of the fee paid will be refunded: within 3 months - 50% refund; between 4 and 6 months - 25% refund; no refund after 6 months. Required proof: written notice of leaving, confirmation of leaving from the University (student record or HR confirmation). Send proof to [email protected].
Medical or legitimate ground
Rule: Membership may be frozen or considered for refund in special circumstances such as medical reasons. The membership team may require medical evidence and grants freezes at their discretion. Required proof: medical certificate or letter from a GP or consultant and dates covering the requested freeze period.
Price increase
Rule: If The Edge increases membership prices mid-contract, consumers may have rights under consumer law to cancel. Required proof: notice of price increase from The Edge and your existing membership contract. Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 cooling-off and contract renewal protections (official text).
Death of the subscriber
Rule: The contract is normally ended on the death of the subscriber. Required proof: death certificate and proof of relationship or authority to act for the estate. Contact [email protected] with documents.
End of commitment
Rule: Monthly memberships require a minimum commitment of two months. To end after the minimum term, provide 28 days notice by the cancellation methods above. Required proof: none beyond membership identification. If notice extends into the next calendar month the member pays for that month in full and retains access until month end.
