Cooling-off (14-day Cancellation Period)
If you paid online you have a statutory right to cancel within 14 days from the Start Date subject to the membership not being used to access a screening or obtain member discounts. If you cancel within the 14-day Cancellation Period and the membership has not been used, Light will issue a full refund of any fee paid. Cite: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
End of minimum commitment
After the Minimum Period (the membership has a minimum 6-month commitment), members on a Monthly Payment Plan can terminate by giving one full month's notice in writing to the Membership Helpline. Termination takes effect one month after the Direct Debit following receipt of the notice.
Termination during the Minimum Period on Legitimate Grounds
Termination during the Minimum Period is allowed only on "Legitimate Grounds". The request must be submitted in writing by post or email to The Light (FAO: Membership Helpline), stating the reason and providing supporting evidence. If accepted, for Monthly Payment Plans the agreement terminates one month after the Direct Debit following the request. If on an Upfront Payment Plan, a pro-rata refund for remaining full months, less one month's fee, will be issued.
Moving address
If you are moving and cannot reasonably use the membership, submit a written termination request to [email protected] or by post with evidence of new address (for example a tenancy agreement or utility bill). Light requires supporting evidence; specific accepted documents not listed beyond 'supporting evidence'.
Death of subscriber
If the subscriber has died, submit written notice and a copy of the death certificate to the Membership Helpline by email or post. Light's membership terms require supporting evidence; exact refund handling is not published by Light Cinema.
Price increase or changes to membership
If Light changes the membership terms or price, check the membership terms published at the local membership page. If a unilateral change is applied, you may be able to terminate under the membership terms; check the applicable membership terms and raise the issue with the Membership Helpline. Where statutory rights apply, cite Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and Consumer Rights Act 2015 for services performed with reasonable care and skill.
