Product overview

Discord is a messaging and voice chat platform focused on communities and gaming. It supports servers, channels, direct messages, voice calls and media sharing. Paid features are offered under Nitro, Nitro Classic and Nitro Basic, plus server boosts and one-time purchases.

Who uses Discord

The platform is used by gamers, hobby communities, creators and groups that need persistent voice or text servers and moderation tools. Discord lists active monthly users at 200 million.

Web / Desktop cancellation

1. Open Discord on desktop or in a browser.
2. Click User Settings (gear icon) at the bottom left.
3. Select Subscriptions on the left or Server Boost if cancelling a boost.
4. Locate your active subscription and click Cancel or Turn off Auto-Renewal.
5. Keep the on-screen confirmation as proof; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period.

iOS cancellation (App Store)

1. Open Settings on your iPhone and tap your name to open Apple ID.
2. Tap Subscriptions, locate Discord or Nitro and tap Cancel Subscription.
3. Follow Apple prompts; refunds must be requested from Apple for App Store purchases. See Discord's note about store purchases at Google Play Store Integration FAQ and related store policies.

Android cancellation (Google Play)

1. Open Google Play Store, tap your profile, then Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions.
2. Select Discord or Nitro, then Cancel subscription and confirm.
3. For Google Play purchases consult Google Play; Discord directs store purchases to the store's refund processes.

Email / Support ticket cancellation

1. Open a support request via Discord Support. Provide your Discord username, email and purchase date.
2. Ask to cancel auto-renewal for Nitro or to revoke a Server Boost subscription.
3. Keep the support ticket ID and responses as proof. Discord reviews refund requests case-by-case as described in their Refund Policy.

Post or registered letter

1. Send a registered letter to: Discord, Crown Way, CF14 3UZ Cardiff, United Kingdom.
2. Include account email, username, subscription type and a clear cancellation request. Keep the postal receipt as proof.

Moving abroad or relocation

Rule: Moving location alone is not listed by Discord as an automatic reason for refund or immediate termination. To request special treatment, supply proof of relocation such as a dated utility bill or tenancy agreement and submit a Support request. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 only applies to cooling-off rights for purchases made online; evidence may support a refund claim under contractual fairness rules.

Price increase

Rule: If Discord raises prices for a subscription, you may cancel at renewal. Provide the price increase notice sent by Discord (email or in-app). Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 on unfair terms and the proposed 2024 Consumer Bill provisions regarding renewal cooling-off in Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Bill 2024 where renewal cooling-off rights are described.

Death of subscriber

Rule: Discord does not publish a dedicated bereavement cancellation procedure. Submit Support with a death certificate and account details to request account closure. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 does not create special rules for death beyond normal contract law; keep documentation as proof.

Legitimate ground (service not provided or defective)

Rule: Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 services must be performed with reasonable care and skill. If paid services fail (for example billed features not delivered), submit evidence such as screenshots, timestamps and Support correspondence. Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015.

End of commitment or subscription period

Rule: For subscriptions, cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period. Provide that you cancelled before the next renewal date; your account page and support ticket timestamps serve as proof. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 for pre-contract information and cooling-off rights when applicable.

Cooling-off period

Rule: Consumers in the UK have a 14-day cooling-off right for online contracts under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. Exception: digital content where the consumer consents to immediate access or download - the right to withdraw is lost once access starts if the consumer acknowledged that. If you cancel within 14 days and have not started digital content, you may request a refund. Before cancelling: negotiate

Retention offers: Research does not report standard retention discounts or automatic offers from Discord. To request a discount or pause, open a Support ticket and ask for any available promotional options. State your cancellation reason, your current plan and your preferred outcome (pause, discount, or downgrade). There is no published obligation for Discord to provide retention offers.

Consumer law and regulators

In the United Kingdom consumer protections include the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Citizens Advice provides guidance and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) enforces against unfair subscription practices.

Cooling-off rights and digital content

Unfair terms and cancellation penalties

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill and limits unfair contract terms, including disproportionate cancellation penalties.

How to escalate

Step 1: Complain to Discord Support and keep ticket IDs and timestamps. Step 2: If unresolved, contact Citizens Advice for guidance at Citizens Advice. Step 3: For eligible card payments consider Section 75 (for credit cards) or chargeback via your bank. The CMA monitors hard-to-cancel subscriptions and may act if terms are unclear.

Access and remaining features

After cancellation you retain access to paid features until the end of the current paid period. There is no entitlement to a refund for unused time unless Discord states otherwise in a specific case.

Data and account closure

If you want to remove data, delete your account via User Settings > My Account > Delete Account. Back up any messages or files beforehand because deletion is irreversible. If you only cancel Nitro, your account persists with free features.

Billing and receipts

Keep receipts from Discord or the App Store / Google Play for proof of payment. For App Store purchases, request refunds from Apple; for Google Play purchases, request refunds from Google Play. For desktop purchases, submit a ticket under Discord Refund Policy.

• Step 4: Note billing dates to avoid another renewal; cancellation should happen before the next renewal date to stop future charges.
• Step 5: If you want a refund, request it within the timelines specified by Discord: many refund requests must be submitted within 5 days for Nitro or Server Boost purchases as noted in Discord support guidance.
