Web - cancel inside your Steam account

1. Open https://store.steampowered.com/ and sign in with your Steam account.
2. Click your profile name, select 'Account details'.
3. Under 'Store & Purchase History' locate 'Manage Subscriptions' or the specific subscription and select 'Cancel'.
4. Follow on-screen prompts to confirm cancellation; take a screenshot of the confirmation.
5. If you want a refund, visit Steam Refunds and submit a request within the applicable timeframe.

iOS - cancel via Apple if billed through App Store

1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad and tap your name.
2. Tap Subscriptions, find the Steam-related subscription and tap Cancel Subscription.
3. Keep a screenshot showing the subscription is cancelled.
4. If you need a refund for an auto-renewal billed by Apple, request a refund through Apple's reportaproblem.apple.com facility; Steam does not control Apple billing.

Android - cancel via Google Play if billed through Google

1. Open the Google Play Store app and tap your profile icon.
2. Tap Payments and subscriptions then Subscriptions, find the Steam entry and Cancel subscription.
3. Save a screenshot as proof. For refunds of Google charges, use Google Play refund flow.

Phone - not available

1. Steam does not publish a public support phone number. Use web support at Steam Help.
2. Phone-based cancellation is not supported publicly by Steam; registered letter or support ticket is required for written confirmations.

Email / Support ticket

1. Go to Steam Support via Steam Help.
2. Select the product or account issue and choose the subscription or billing topic.
3. Create a support ticket explaining you wish to cancel; include order or subscription ID and screenshots.
4. Keep the ticket number and any reply as proof of cancellation.

Post - registered letter

1. Write a clear cancellation statement including account name, Steam account email and subscription details.

Moving / relocation

Rule - There is no specific Steam policy that treats moving as an automatic ground for immediate refund. Notify Steam Support with a clear statement cancelling the subscription. If you seek a refund for a recent renewal, follow the 48-hour refund rule for renewable subscriptions provided by Steam if the subscription has not been used during the billing cycle.

Required proof documents - Proof of new address where relevant (utility bill or tenancy agreement) if the trader requests it; screenshot of cancellation confirmation.

Price increase

Rule - If Steam or a third-party developer increases the price or changes the terms, you may have a right to cancel. Notify Steam with a clear statement. If Steam has applied a price increase tied to a subscription renewal and you cancel, you will not be charged going forward once cancellation takes effect.

Death of subscriber

Legitimate ground (fraud, account compromise, violation)

Rule - If your account has been compromised or you report fraudulent charges, use Steam Support to report theft or fraud immediately. Steam’s policies say if an account is restricted, terminated, or canceled by Valve for violation of the Subscriber Agreement, no refund will be granted for subscription fees or unused Steam Wallet funds.

End of commitment

Rule - Steam does not publish minimum fixed-term subscriptions for general store purchases. For renewable subscriptions Steam states you can cancel at any time and the subscription will not automatically renew.

Cooling-off period

Rule - For digital content the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 provide a 14-day right to cancel for most online contracts, but the right can be lost if the consumer expressly agreed that download or streaming should begin and they confirmed they would lose the right once the service began. For renewable subscriptions, Steam states refunds for renewals are allowed within 48 hours of the initial purchase or any automatic renewal if the subscription has not been used during the billing cycle.

Before you cancel: negotiate

Retention offers - Research does not show publicly reported retention discounts from Steam. Valve does not publish a standard retention offer process. To attempt negotiation, open a Steam Support ticket, explain why you are cancelling and ask if any promotional credit or account options are available. Provide account and purchase details. EA Play - monthly £5.99 or annual £35.99. Yearly cost if monthly: 5.99 x 12 = £71.88 per year. Annual cost: £35.99 per year.

Example savings if you cancel Xbox Game Pass and instead take EA Play annual: £131.88 - £35.99 = £95.89 saved per year.

If you primarily use low-cost purchases, Steam Wallet top ups are available at £4.00, £10.00, £25.00, £50.00 and £100.00, letting you control spend without committing to a subscription.

Key UK protections

The main UK protections that can apply to Steam purchases and subscriptions are the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 (14-day cooling-off period for most online contracts) and the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (services must be performed with reasonable care and skill; unfair contract terms are not binding). For renewals and cancellation rights the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 s.264 provides a consumer right to cancel a subscription contract during initial and renewal cooling-off periods.
