Web - cancel via the Freedom Leisure site

1. Open the Freedom Leisure cancellation page: https://www.freedom-leisure.co.uk/cancel/.
2. Locate your home centre contact details and complete any online form or contact link provided.
3. Send a follow-up email or letter to your Centre Manager confirming cancellation in writing and giving at least 31 days' notice before the next Direct Debit payment.
4. Return your membership card by the effective date as required by terms.
5. Keep copies of every message and the site confirmation for proof.

Android - cancel if billed through Google Play

1. Open Google Play app on your Android device.
2. Tap your profile, then Subscriptions and select the Freedom Leisure subscription.
3. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the on-screen instructions.
4. Stopping the Google Play subscription prevents future charges; also notify Freedom Leisure to confirm centre-level cancellation.

Post - registered letter to Centre Manager

1. Write a cancellation letter with full name, membership number, centre name and a clear statement that you cancel the membership.
2. Send by registered post to your home centre's Manager. Use the registered address if you have it or the registered head office: Freedom Leisure, 1-6 Carriers Way, BN8 6AG Lewes, United Kingdom.
3. Include instructions to return your membership card or attach evidence you returned it.
4. Keep proof of posting and allow 31 days for the cancellation to take effect.

Email - written cancellation by email

1. Email your Centre Manager or [email protected] with the subject 'Membership cancellation' and state the effective date at least 31 days before your next Direct Debit.
2. Attach a photo of your membership card if requested and ask for a written confirmation of termination.
3. If no reply in 7 days, resend the message and send a registered letter.

Phone - call and confirm in writing

1. Find your centre phone number on the centre page and call to speak with the Manager.
2. Record the name of the person you speak to and the date of the call.
3. Follow up the phone call immediately with a written cancellation by email or registered post to create proof.

Moving house

Freedom Leisure does not publish a specific automatic relocation cancellation in their public terms. Members who must cancel because they move should write to their Centre Manager with proof of new address (for example a tenancy agreement or utility bill) and request cancellation. The right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 during the cooling-off period remains applicable if the contract was concluded off-premises or online. Price increase

If Freedom Leisure increases the price mid-contract, check your membership terms and the centre's notice of change. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill; an unfair unilateral price increase could be challenged. Contact your Centre Manager to request termination or renegotiation and keep a copy of any price-change notice.

Death of the subscriber

Freedom Leisure membership terms do not publish a specific death clause in the public copy. To cancel for this reason, contact the Centre Manager and provide a copy of the death certificate and proof of authority (executor or next of kin). State the membership number and request confirmation of termination and any applicable refund. The centre has discretion on refunds; research shows memberships paid in full will not normally be refunded but transfers may be allowed at the Manager's discretion.

Legitimate ground accepted by Freedom Leisure

The published Freedom Leisure rules note termination for unpaid fees and suspension for conduct injurious to the centre. The Manager has discretion to transfer memberships or consider exceptions. Document the reason and provide supporting evidence to the Centre Manager. Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

End of commitment

If your membership has a fixed term, cancellation at the end of that term should be made in writing at least 31 days before the next Direct Debit. If the terms are silent on minimum commitment, Freedom Leisure lists centre-specific memberships and joining fees; verify your membership agreement for the exact end date and follow the 31 days' notice rule.

Cooling-off (14 days)

If you signed up online or off-premises, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 provide a 14-day cooling-off period during which you can cancel and obtain a refund, subject to the digital content exception. Before you cancel - how to negotiate retention

Freedom Leisure runs time-limited offers such as 3 months free on annual memberships (12 months for the price of 9, offer ended 31/01/2026 for new members), No Joining Fee offers on monthly memberships (offer ended 31/01/2026 for new members), and a 'Try Us This Summer - 14 Days for Just £28' offer (offer ends 18/08/2026). To negotiate retention, contact your Centre Manager in writing, explain why you are leaving, quote competitor prices and ask for a loyalty discount or freeze. Ask explicitly for a written counter-offer from the Manager. There are no published universal retention discounts; offers are centre-specific or time-limited.

What cancelling saves - yearly math

Compute the annual cost you will avoid by cancelling. Examples using published prices:

• Wealden Family Membership: £125 x 12 = £1,500 per year. Annual price listed: £1,375. Saving by paying annual instead of monthly: £1,500 - £1,375 = £125 per year.
• Corporate Peak Membership: £46 x 12 = £552 per year. Published annual price: £460. Saving if you pay annual: £552 - £460 = £92 per year.
• Corporate Off-Peak Membership: £37 x 12 = £444 per year. Published annual price: £407. Saving: £444 - £407 = £37 per year.

Cheapest alternative example: PureGym monthly at £24.99 per month equals £24.99 x 12 = £299.88 per year. Switching from a Wealden Family Membership at £1,500 per year to PureGym at £299.88 would save £1,200.12 per year, but check facility and family coverage differences before switching.

Key consumer law that applies

Two main pieces of UK law apply: the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 - which provides a 14-day cooling-off period for most contracts concluded online or off-premises - and the Consumer Rights Act 2015 - which requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill and limits unfair contract terms. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) considers hard-to-cancel subscriptions and unclear auto-renewal terms to be potentially unfair practices.

How to escalate a dispute

If Freedom Leisure refuses a valid cancellation or refund, first complain in writing to the Centre Manager and keep copies. Return and access

Return your membership card by the effective cancellation date as stated in the Freedom Leisure terms. If you do not return the card, the centre may withhold confirmation of cancellation.

Direct Debit and final billing

Cancelling the Direct Debit with your bank does not cancel the membership. Freedom Leisure's terms state that cancelling the Direct Debit Instruction with the bank remains the responsibility of the member. Also, if fees remain unpaid 30 days after they are due the centre may terminate the membership and claim outstanding fees.

Data and reactivation

Request written confirmation that your membership has ended and ask how long personal data will be retained. If you rejoin later, ask if any joining fee applies; some offers removed joining fees for limited periods only.

• Write a clear cancellation letter or email including name, membership number and requested termination date at least 31 days before the next Direct Debit.
