Cancel UofG Sport the easy way

Overview

UofG Sport is the University of Glasgow Sport service that operates fitness facilities, classes and sports bookings for students and the public in Glasgow. It manages memberships, class bookings and venue lettings across campus sites including Stevenson Building and Garscube Sports Complex.

Who uses it

Students and local residents who want gym access, classes or to join University sports clubs use UofG Sport. Pricing includes student annual, semester and monthly plans as well as off-peak options.

Key features

Gym access, fitness classes, outdoor pitches and block bookings managed through its booking system and app. The booking app has a reported App Store rating of 4.6/5 and Google Play rating 2.9/5.

Web

1. Download or locate the Membership Cancellation Request Form on the University site.
2. Complete the requested fields: name, membership number, reason for cancellation, requested end date.
3. Email the completed form to [email protected] or upload via the portal if available.
4. Retain your sent email and request a written confirmation from [email protected].
5. Allow at least one month notice for Direct Debit or Payroll Mandate cancellations.

iOS

1. Open the UofG Sport app and navigate to your bookings for class cancellations; select the class and cancel at least 2 hours before start.
2. For membership cancellation, follow the app link to the membership page and find the Membership Cancellation Request Form.
3. Complete form and email to [email protected].
4. Keep screenshots of completed forms and any app messages as proof.

Android

1. Open the UofG Sport app and cancel classes at least 2 hours before the session start time to avoid charges.
2. For membership cancellation, use the app link to access the membership form, or complete the form on the University website and email it to [email protected].
3. Save confirmations and screenshots.

Phone

1. Call 0141 330 4540 (Stevenson Building) or 0141 330 5363 (Garscube Sports Complex).
2. Explain you want to cancel a membership or a casual booking, request the Membership Cancellation Request Form by email if required.
3. Ask the agent to send confirmation by email and note the agent's name and time of call.
4. If cancelling a casual booking, provide booking reference and allow the required notice based on booking value.

Email

1. Attach the completed Membership Cancellation Request Form to an email to [email protected].
2. State your membership number, requested end date and preferred refund method if applicable.
3. Request written confirmation and keep copies of both the sent email and any reply.

Post

1. Print and sign the Membership Cancellation Request Form.
2. Send by registered post to UofG Sport, 72 Southbrae Drive, G13 1PP Glasgow, United Kingdom.
3. Retain proof of postage and delivery receipt. Expect processing after the one month notice period.

Moving away (change of address)

If you must cancel because you move away from Glasgow and cannot reasonably use the facilities, submit the Membership Cancellation Request Form with proof of new address such as tenancy agreement, utility bill or university change of address. UofG Sport's terms do not publish a specific automatic waiver, so request written acceptance from [email protected].

Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 for service performance where relevant.

Price increase

If UofG Sport increases the membership price during an ongoing contract, review your membership terms and contact [email protected] to request cancellation or renegotiation. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 protects the right to cancel during renewal cooling-off periods and guards against unfair auto-renewal practices; raise this with the service if you consider the increase unfair.

Death of the subscriber

To cancel after the death of a subscriber, contact [email protected] and provide a copy of the death certificate and the executor's contact details. The university's membership team will advise on account closure and any refund policy applicable to prepaid periods.

Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 for contract termination in such events.

Legitimate ground - medical or mobility

For prepaid memberships, UofG Sport accepts medical grounds with a GP letter. The membership terms state refunds for pre-paid memberships may be considered at UofG Sport's discretion if a GP letter specifies medical reasons preventing use. For courses, medical cancellation rules also apply as per course refund policy.

End of commitment / member-initiated

For Direct Debit or Payroll Mandate memberships you must complete the Membership Cancellation Request Form and provide at least one month's notice. Payroll Mandate payments are deducted at the end of the month and cover the past month; Direct Debit payments are taken on the 15th and cover until the 15th of the following month.

Required documents: completed form and confirmation email. Applicable law: contractual terms in the membership agreement.

Cooling-off period

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you typically have a 14-day cooling-off period for contracts concluded off-premises or online. UofG Sport's membership terms include a 14-day initial cooling-off period; if the facilities are used during that period UofG Sport reserves the right to charge a pro-rata amount for use.

Before you cancel: negotiate

Research does not report any standard retention offers from UofG Sport. If you want to avoid cancellation, email [email protected] and request either a temporary freeze, switch to an off-peak plan, or a transfer to a semester product. Explain your reason and request a written offer. There is no published list of retention discounts; all such offers are discretionary.

Use the actual plan prices to calculate yearly savings if you cancel now.

• Student 12-Month SPORT Full-Access: listed annual price £192.60. Yearly cost: £192.60 (given).
• Student Monthly Fitness & Wellbeing Anytime Access: £19.75 per month. Yearly cost: 19.75 x 12 = £237.00 per year.
• Student 12-Month Fitness & Wellbeing Anytime Access: listed annual price £170. Yearly cost: £170.00 per year.

Example savings if you cancel a monthly plan and choose the cheapest annual plan available:

• Cancel Monthly at £19.75 x 12 = £237.00 and switch to Student 12-Month SPORT Full-Access at £192.60: saving = 237.00 - 192.60 = £44.40 per year.
• Cancel Monthly at £19.75 x 12 = £237.00 and switch to Student 12-Month Fitness & Wellbeing at £170.00: saving = 237.00 - 170.00 = £67.00 per year.

Key consumer law

United Kingdom consumer law relevant to UofG Sport includes the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (services must be performed with reasonable care and skill) and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 (14-day cooling-off period for most online/off-premises contracts). Check final access and billing

Confirm the effective end date in writing. For Direct Debit members note when the next 15th falls; for Payroll Mandate members note deductions are made at month end and cover the past month.

Data and membership records

Request confirmation that your membership account is closed and ask what personal data will be retained. Email [email protected] to request account closure confirmation and any data retention timescales.

Re-activation

If you rejoin later, membership prices and minimum commitments may differ from your original contract. Keep your confirmation email to show the date you left if you need a grace or rejoin discount.
