Moving abroad or change of residence
If you move and can no longer use Ask a Doctor services in the UK, provide proof of change of address such as a utility bill or tenancy agreement plus a copy of the new address documentation. Ask a Doctor UK accepts written evidence of moving; follow the standard cancellation channels. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 for distance contracts where change of circumstance affects service.
Price increase
If the company increases the price mid-contract and your contract allows termination for price increases, send a written cancellation quoting the contract clause and the effective date of the increase. Provide the company notice and a copy of the price change. The CMA expects clear information on automatic renewal and price increases; if the increase is not permitted by your contract, Consumer Rights Act 2015 protections on unfair terms may apply.
Death of the subscriber
To cancel when a subscriber has died, submit a death certificate and a written request from the executor or next of kin. State the account holder name, account email, and ask for termination and closure of the account. The company should stop future charges once it receives acceptable documentation.
Legitimate ground - poor service or lack of reasonable care
If services were not provided with reasonable care and skill, cite the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Collect evidence such as dated messages, consultation transcripts, and any medical advice that was clearly negligent. Submit a written complaint requesting cancellation and remediation under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
End of commitment / minimum term completed
If your plan had a fixed term, cancellation is allowed at the end of the term. Provide the contract start date and request termination effective immediately at the contract end. If your plan automatically renewed, state the renewal date and request non-renewal from the next billing cycle.
Cooling-off period (14 days)
Online or distance contracts are covered by the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. You have a 14 day cooling-off period starting the day after the contract is entered into. To cancel within this period, send a clear written notice and request a full refund. If you asked for service during the cooling-off period, the company may charge for the services provided and refund the remainder. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. Further guidance at Citizens Advice - Cancelling a service.
