Cancel Denplan the easy way

Overview

Denplan is a brand of dental payment plans and supplementary dental insurance managed by DENPLAN LIMITED, part of the Simplyhealth Group Limited. Denplan offers practice-run payment plans such as Denplan Care, Denplan Essentials and Denplan for Children plus a Denplan Supplementary Insurance option for certain plans.

Who uses Denplan

Denplan serves patients who prefer regular monthly payments for routine dental care and dentists who offer private dental care on a plan basis. Denplan states it has around 1.5 million subscribers.

How Denplan is structured

Individual dentists set Denplan fees in their practices based on oral health, expected future treatment and practice costs. Some practices add options such as implant cover for an extra fee.

1. Open Denplan patients contact form at Denplan contact page.
2. Select the option most closely matching membership or cancellation and include your membership number, full name and date of birth.
3. Request cancellation and state whether you are cancelling Supplementary Insurance only or the Denplan contract with your dental practice.
4. Keep a copy of the form submission or any reply as proof.

iOS

1. Denplan does not publish an official iOS app for membership cancellation. Use the web contact form or phone.
2. If you manage payments via your bank app, stop recurring payments only after confirming cancellation with Denplan or your practice.

Phone

1. Call Denplan or your dental practice and tell the agent you wish to cancel your Denplan membership or supplementary insurance.
2. Give your membership number, full name and date of birth.
3. Ask the agent to confirm the date when cancellation becomes effective and whether any payments are due during the notice period.
4. Record the time and name of the agent and ask for a written confirmation by email or post.

Email

1. Send an email to the practice or Denplan including your membership number, full name and date of birth and a clear statement: "I wish to cancel my Denplan membership/supplementary insurance."
2. Ask for written confirmation of the effective cancellation date.
3. Keep the sent email and any reply as proof.

Post

1. Write and sign a letter containing your membership number, full name and date of birth and the sentence: "I wish to cancel my Denplan membership/supplementary insurance."
2. Send by recorded or registered delivery to Denplan, Victoria Road, SO23 7RG Winchester, United Kingdom.
3. Keep the postal receipt and any written confirmation from Denplan or your practice.

Cooling-off period

Rule - You can cancel a Denplan Supplementary Insurance policy for any reason during a 14-day cooling-off period. The period starts on the contract start date or the day you receive the policy terms and conditions, whichever is later. This is mandated by the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

Required proof documents - copy of policy start date or welcome document; copy of the cancellation sent within 14 days.

End of commitment / standard cancellation

Rule - After the 14-day cooling-off period you may cancel by giving a minimum of 21 days' notice to Denplan via telephone, letter, fax or email. Payment due during the notice period will be collected and cover will continue until the end of the month that the final payment covers.

Required proof documents - copy of cancellation communication and any confirmation from Denplan showing effective cancellation date.

Cancelling because you stop using the dental practice

Rule - If you cancel your Denplan Care, Denplan Essentials, Denplan for Children or Denplan Membership contract with your dental practice, your Denplan Supplementary Insurance policy (and Denplan Implant Upgrade Cover if chosen) will also be cancelled.

Required proof documents - written confirmation from your dental practice showing termination of the patient plan or a copy of the notice you gave the practice.

Failure to pay

Rule - If you fail to pay fees, insurance cover will be suspended and no claims will be paid until all outstanding fees are paid. If two successive payments are missed Denplan can terminate the contract and treat insurance as cancelled from the date the first payment was overdue with no claims paid for unpaid periods.

Required proof documents - payment statements showing missed payments; correspondence from Denplan regarding suspension or termination.

Price increase

Rule - Denplan pricing is set by individual dental practices. Denplan policy documents do not publish a specific automatic right to cancel for every price increase. If your practice increases the Denplan fee, contact Denplan or your practice to request clarification and to ask whether you may cancel under the contract terms.

Required proof documents - copy of any practice fee notice and your membership details. Applicable law - Consumer Rights Act 2015 for fairness of contract terms.

Death of subscriber

Rule - Denplan policy documents do not publish a specific instruction for death of the subscriber. To cancel on behalf of a deceased subscriber, contact the dental practice and Denplan with proof of death and any executor details so they can advise next steps.

Required proof documents - death certificate and proof of authority (executor or next of kin). If no formal rule is published, Denplan will handle by case-by-case communication.

Legitimate ground (fraud, abusive behaviour, breach)

Rule - Denplan can cancel a policy if they suspect fraudulent claims, if you materially breach the terms and conditions, or if you are abusive to staff.

Required proof documents - Denplan internal investigation records or correspondence; examples of alleged abusive behaviour as recorded by Denplan. Applicable law - Consumer Rights Act 2015 where contractual fairness is relevant.

Before cancelling: negotiate

Retention offers - Denplan product information does not list standard retention discounts published centrally. Practice-level discounts and family discounts are reported by Denplan documentation as possible since dentists set fees locally.

How to ask - Contact your dental practice first. Request a switch to a lower-cost Denplan tier (for example move from Denplan Care Band A to Denplan Essentials Band A where available), ask if a family discount applies or request removal of optional add-ons such as implant cover (implant cover example cost in some practices is an additional £2.25 per month). Ask the practice to confirm any new monthly fee in writing.

Consumer law and regulators

Applicable law - Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 (14-day cooling-off period) and Consumer Rights Act 2015 (services must be performed with reasonable care and skill; unfair contract terms may be unenforceable). Relevant regulators include the Financial Conduct Authority for some financial products and Citizens Advice for general consumer support. The Competition and Markets Authority has guidance on auto-renewal and hard-to-cancel subscriptions.

How to escalate a dispute

Step 1 - Complain to Denplan in writing, keeping copies of all communications.

Step 2 - If the policy is an FCA-regulated insurance product and you cannot resolve the complaint, escalate to the Financial Ombudsman Service where eligible.

Step 3 - If cancellation or contract fairness is disputed, seek guidance from Citizens Advice and consider chargeback via your card issuer or Section 75 claim for qualifying card payments.

Final billing and payments

If a payment becomes due during the 21-day notice period Denplan will collect it and cover continues until the end of the month that payment covers. Keep evidence of all payments and any confirmation of the final payment amount.

Access to dental records and claims

Supplementary insurance claims stop when cover ends. Request copies of any outstanding claims and clinical notes from your dental practice if you need records for future care.

Re-activation and switching back

To rejoin Denplan you must contact your dental practice directly; practices set availability and fees. If you want to move to an alternative plan, compare annual costs and confirm waiting periods or exclusions for any new insurance.

Use this checklist to make sure your cancellation is clean and auditable.

• Find your membership number and policy documents or welcome letter.
• Decide whether you are cancelling Supplementary Insurance only or the Denplan contract with your dental practice.
• Choose your cancellation channel and send a written notice (email or registered letter preferred).
