Rule: WPA states that if you live outside the United Kingdom for more than six months in any year, WPA may terminate or void the policy. Required proof documents: copy of new address, date-stamped travel tickets, or immigration records. Applicable law: Contracts governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Price increase
Rule: WPA policies are annual and renew automatically. If WPA raises your premium at renewal you can cancel before the renewal takes effect. Required proof documents: renewal notice from WPA. Applicable law/article: Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers fairness of contract terms; the CMA guidance on auto-renewal and unfair practices applies.
Death of subscriber
Rule: The policyholder surrenders or calls to cancel on behalf of the estate. Required proof documents: death certificate and executor contact details. Applicable law: Laws of England and Wales govern the policy.
Legitimate ground (WPA accepted reasons)
Rule: WPA may terminate or void a policy for dishonesty, fraudulent claims, reckless or negligent misrepresentation, abusive behaviour, failure to pay premiums, non compliance with policy terms, or living outside the UK for more than six months in any year. Required proof documents: evidence of breach or factual records as requested by WPA. Applicable law/article: Consumer Rights Act 2015 for service performance and unfair terms; FCA/PRA regulation for insurer conduct.
End of commitment / automatic renewal
Rule: WPA issues annual contracts that renew automatically unless cancelled. Required proof documents: cancellation request or written notice to the insurer. Applicable law/article: CMA guidance on auto-renewal; Consumer Rights Act 2015 for contract terms.
Cooling-off (14-day statutory right)
Rule: If you bought the policy online or off premises you have a 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. WPA additionally offers a 30-day review window on the Certificate of Insurance for a full refund if no claims have been made.
