Cooling-off (14 day right to cancel)
If you bought the policy online or off-premises you have 14 days to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. If you cancel within 14 days you get a refund for the remaining unexpired period after deduction for days insured. 1st Central may retain part of the arrangement fee: up to £25 is non-refundable if cancelled before or within 14 days. Optional extras are refunded in full if no claim was made on them. Source: 1st Central - cooling-off.
Moving house or change of vehicle
If you move or change vehicle, notify 1st Central; you can cancel and request a refund for the unused period if no claim has been made. Provide proof: new address or vehicle registration document (V5C). The policy will be adjusted or cancelled from the requested date.
Price increase
If 1st Central raises your premium at renewal you may cancel before the renewal takes effect and request a refund for the unused period of the renewed policy. Provide the renewal notice as evidence. This follows the insurer's renewal and cancellation terms and consumer rights on contract variation under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Death of the policyholder
On death of the named policyholder, the policy may be cancelled. Provide a copy of the death certificate and your authority to act on behalf of the estate. Refunds are handled according to the policy terms and the insurer's cancellation rules.
Non-disclosure or misrepresentation
If 1st Central cancels due to non-disclosure or misrepresentation, the insurer may charge a fee of up to £50 and may refuse a refund depending on circumstances. If you believe the insurer acted incorrectly, escalate via the complaints process and then the Financial Ombudsman Service.
End of contract / voluntary cancellation
You may cancel at any time. After 14 days a cancellation fee applies: commonly £15 if cancelled online or £50 if cancelled by phone; arrangement fee of £50 remains for setup and renewal in many cases. If a claim has been made no refund is given for the unexpired period.
