How performers use Backstage

Performers use Backstage to find paid and unpaid casting opportunities, submit applications, receive messages from casting directors, and upgrade membership to increase chances of being discovered.

Web - Cancel from your Backstage account

1. Open https://www.backstage.com and sign in to your Backstage account.
2. Go to Account Settings or Manage Subscription.
3. Under subscription information click "Turn Auto-Renew Off" to stop future renewals.
4. Confirm the change and keep a screenshot of the on-screen confirmation or account page showing auto-renew toggled off.

iOS - Cancel via Apple

1. Open Settings on your iPhone and tap your name.
2. Tap Subscriptions and find the Backstage subscription.
3. Tap Cancel Subscription. Backstage cannot cancel Apple-processed subscriptions for you.
4. Keep Apple's cancellation confirmation or the Subscription entry showing the end date.

Support ticket / Contact form

1. Open the contact page at https://www.backstage.com/contact or the Help Center contact form.
2. Choose the subscription or billing topic and submit a cancellation request with account details.
3. Record the ticket number and any support reply as proof.
4. Follow up if you do not receive confirmation within 7 days.

Email or press contact

1. Send an email to [email protected] with your account email, subscription plan, and the explicit instruction to cancel auto-renewal.
2. Request written confirmation and archive the reply.

Post - Registered letter

1. Prepare a signed letter that states your account email, the subscription to cancel and the date you request cancellation.
2. Send as a registered letter to: Backstage, Main St., 11201 Brooklyn, USA.
3. Keep the postal receipt as proof of sending.

Cooling-off period (14 days)

If you subscribed online, you have a 14 day statutory cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. The cooling-off period begins the day after the contract is formed. To cancel within 14 days inform Backstage in writing and request a refund if eligible. Proof required: account email and dated cancellation message. See Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

Refund after the initial 30 days for annual or long subscriptions

Backstage states that for subscriptions longer than one month you can cancel within thirty (30) days of purchase or renewal for a full refund. Proof required: purchase receipt and cancellation request within 30 days. This is a contractual refund term stated in Backstage terms of service. See Backstage terms.

Monthly subscriptions

Monthly subscriptions are not eligible for a refund once paid, but you may cancel to prevent future charges. Proof required: account confirmation of auto-renew disabled. This policy is in Backstage terms of service.

iOS / App Store purchases

If you purchased via the Apple App Store you must request cancellation and refunds via Apple. Backstage cannot cancel or refund App Store purchases. Proof required: Apple subscription record. See iOS cancellation help.

Price increase

If Backstage raises prices you can cancel under the contract terms; provide the price increase notice and your cancellation request. Proof required: notice from Backstage and your account cancellation request.

Death of subscriber

For death of the subscriber, provide a copy of the death certificate and the account holder details in writing. Backstage procedures for this are not publicly detailed; request account closure and any eligible refunds by email to [email protected]. Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 for fairness of contract terms.

Before you cancel: try retention

Backstage does not publish standard retention offers in public documentation. To request a retention offer, contact support through the contact form or by email [email protected] and state your reason to leave, current plan, and ask whether a promotional rate or temporary discount is available. Keep any written offer as proof.

What cancellation saves you - yearly math

Example 1 - Backstage Premium (website): definition and yearly cost. Premium monthly price = £24.99. Yearly cost = £24.99 x 12 = £299.88 per year.

Example 2 - Spotify Premium Individual (competitor): monthly price = £12.99. Yearly cost = £12.99 x 12 = £155.88 per year.

Annual saving by switching from Backstage Premium monthly plan to Spotify Premium = £299.88 - £155.88 = £144.00 per year.

Example 3 - Backstage Annual (App Store) price = £84.99. Yearly cost shown by Backstage = £84.99 per year. Switching from an annual App Store membership at £84.99 to a monthly Backstage Premium at £24.99 x 12 would be the reverse; compute accordingly.

Cheapest real alternative named in competitor data: Spotify at £12.99/month (annual equivalent £155.88). Use the math above when deciding.

Key UK consumer laws

Two main laws apply to online subscriptions: the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The 2013 Regulations provide a 14 day cooling-off period for distance contracts. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill and protects against unfair contract terms.

Auto-renewal and unfair practices

The Competition and Markets Authority treats hard-to-cancel subscriptions and unclear auto-renewal terms as potential unfair commercial practices. If Backstage presents unclear renewal information or makes cancellation difficult, you can complain to Citizens Advice and request guidance on escalation.

How to escalate

1. Complain to Backstage via the contact form or [email protected] and keep written records. 2. If unresolved, get help from Citizens Advice and consider chargeback via your card issuer or Section 75 for qualifying card payments. 3. For unresolved disputes, use the relevant ombudsman or alternative dispute resolution options identified by Citizens Advice.

Check your account

After cancelling auto-renewal verify that your account page shows auto-renew disabled and note the subscription end date. Keep a screenshot and any email confirmation as proof.

Data and access

Cancellation stops future billing but does not automatically delete your data. If you want account deletion request it via the contact form or email [email protected] and keep the reply. Backstage terms explain account management at Account settings.

Final billing and refunds

If you are eligible for a refund under Backstage terms (30 day rule for subscriptions longer than one month), request the refund in writing and attach purchase proof. For App Store purchases request refund via Apple.
