Cancel Medivet Plan the easy way

Overview

Medivet Plan is the trading name for the Medivet Healthcare Plan (MHP), a 12-month subscription for routine preventative veterinary care covering vaccinations, health checks and parasite protection plus discounts on procedures and medication.

How the plan works

Members pay monthly or annually. The plan offers savings through routine care bundled with discounts: 10% off vet care and prescription medication and 15% off dental procedures. Plans run for 12 months and include an administrative charge on joining and a small admin fee for annual or first direct debit payments.

Web (local practice)

1. Go to your practice page on the Medivet site and locate contact options for your registered clinic. Use the direct contact form or practice email to request cancellation.
2. Include your full name, pet name, plan reference or customer ID if known and your preferred cancellation date.
3. Ask the practice to confirm the cancellation in writing and to confirm whether any cancellation fee applies.

iOS (Apple subscriptions)

1. Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your Apple ID, then Subscriptions.
2. Find the Medivet subscription and choose Cancel Subscription. This stops future renewals.
3. Save the App Store cancellation confirmation email or screenshot as proof.

Android (Google Play)

1. Open Google Play, tap Menu then Subscriptions, select the Medivet subscription and Cancel.
2. Keep the Google Play cancellation receipt for your records.

Phone

1. Call your registered Medivet practice or ask to be connected to the Subscriptions Team.
2. Provide your full name, pet name and plan details and request confirmation by email.
3. If the agent gives a verbal confirmation, request a written confirmation or reference number immediately.

Email

1. Send a clear email to [email protected] with your name, address, pet name, plan type and desired cancellation date.
2. Keep the sent email and any reply confirming cancellation and any fees.

Post

1. Write a signed letter addressed to Medivet Plan, 38 Clarendon Rd, WD17 1HZ Watford, United Kingdom stating your name, address, pet name, plan type and that you Cancel the plan effective on a specified date.
2. Send by recorded delivery and keep the receipt as proof. Request the practice confirm receipt in writing.

Cooling-off period (14 days)

If you joined online or off-premises you have a 14-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. Cancel within 14 days and you are entitled to a refund of sums paid for the plan, but Medivet charges for any services or products you received at full non-discounted rates during that 14-day period.

End of commitment or before renewal

Medivet Plan operates on a 12-month subscription basis. For monthly plans, provide at least 30 days notice before the expiry date to avoid renewal charge. If you fail to provide 30 days notice, a cancellation fee may apply equal to outstanding fees or the value of benefits received since start or last renewal, whichever is lower.

Death of the pet

Medivet accepts pet death as a reason for refund in limited circumstances. Refunds are issued for payments received after the date Medivet is notified of the pet death. Provide the practice with a dated death confirmation or vet certificate as proof.

Administrative error by Medivet

If Medivet made an administrative error (billing mistake or double payment), request a correction and refund. Supply screenshots or bank statements showing the error. Medivet lists administrative error as an exception for refunds.

Price increase

If Medivet raises the price at renewal, check your plan terms. If price increases are treated as contract variations, you may have the right to cancel without penalty if the new terms materially change your contract. Send written cancellation referencing the price change and request confirmation.

Before you cancel: negotiate

Medivet may offer retention options at the discretion of your practice or the Subscriptions Team. Research shows no standard published retention offers. To request a retention offer, email [email protected] or speak to your practice and ask for any available discount or change of plan such as moving from an annual payment to monthly or removing add-ons. If you seek to keep the plan, request written confirmation of any new price or discount.

What cancelling saves - yearly math

Compute the annual cost based on published prices:

• Rabbit Healthcare Plan: £12 x 12 = £144 per year.
• Cat Healthcare Plan: £15.50 x 12 = £186 per year.
• Small Dog (under 20kg): £17.50 x 12 = £210 per year.
• Large Dog (over 20kg): £19.50 x 12 = £234 per year.
• Unlimited Consultations add-on: £14 x 12 = £168 per year.

Example: Cancelling a Small Dog plan paid monthly saves you £210 per year in subscription payments. The cheapest competitor from the researched list is Taylor Vets at £7.50 per month which is £7.50 x 12 = £90 per year. If you switch from Medivet Small Dog at £210 per year to Taylor Vets at £90 per year you save £210 - £90 = £120 per year.

Key laws and regulator

Your rights come from the Consumer Rights Act 2015 which requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill and the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 which give a 14-day cancellation right for distance and off-premises contracts. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) enforces rules on clear auto-renewal terms and unfair contract terms.

Rights on cancellation and refunds

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you can cancel within 14 days and receive a refund for sums paid. Medivet will charge for services provided during those 14 days at non-discounted rates. For annual plans outside the cooling-off period, Medivet’s published position is that refunds are not normally issued except for administrative error or pet death; monthly plans may incur a cancellation fee calculated as the outstanding fees or the value of benefits received, whichever is lower.

How to escalate

First, complain directly to Medivet via [email protected] and your practice. If unresolved, get Citizens Advice help and escalate to the CMA for unfair contract terms. For disputed card payments, consider Section 75 or card chargeback with your card issuer for qualifying transactions.

Confirm access and final billing

Keep the written confirmation from Medivet that states the effective cancellation date and any final charges. Check your bank or card statement for refunds or outstanding direct debit amounts. If you were on an annual plan and paid upfront, confirm whether any refund is due or whether Medivet states no refund outside the cooling-off period.

Data, medical records and reactivation

Request a copy of your pet medical records from your practice if you want to move to another vet. If you later choose to rejoin Medivet Plan, confirm any joining fee and whether your pet’s existing discounts or waiting periods apply. Keep copies of emails and recorded delivery receipts for proof of cancellation.
