Cooling-off period (14 days)
Rule: The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and the FCA guidance give a 14 day cooling-off period starting from policy commencement or from when you receive policy documents, whichever is later. If you cancel within 14 days and no claim has been made you are entitled to a full refund of premiums paid.
Required proof: proof of purchase date (email confirmation or policy documents) and a written cancellation request. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
Price increase
Rule: If Spot increases your premium at renewal the insurer must disclose the change in your renewal notice. Spot has not publicly published a specific unilateral price-increase exit policy in the UK in its public documents. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, unfair unilateral terms may be challenged.
Required proof: your renewal notice showing the increase and policy documents. Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Moving abroad or relocation
Rule: Spot has not published a public list of accepted relocation reasons. If you move outside the UK and the policy does not cover that location, provide evidence of new address and move date.
Required proof: postal change of address, utility bill or tenancy agreement showing new address and date. Applicable law: Insurance Act 2015 and your policy terms.
Death of subscriber
Rule: Policies commonly allow termination on death of the policyholder. Spot has not published the specific process for this situation.
Required proof: copy of death certificate and the executor or next of kin written request including policy number. Applicable law: Insurance Act 2015.
Legitimate grounds accepted by Spot
Rule: Spot has not publicly listed a set of "legitimate grounds" it will accept for early termination other than statutory rights. If you claim legitimate ground based on policy breach, refer to the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Required proof: documentation showing the breach, correspondence with Spot and policy documents. Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015.
End of commitment or renewal
Rule: For policies that auto-renew, give notice before renewal date if you do not want the next year. Spot requires direct contact to cancel; exact notice period is not published by Spot Pet Insurance.
Required proof: your policy renewal date and a written cancellation request. Applicable law: FCA ICOBS guidance and CMA rules on auto-renewal practices.
