1. Sign in at NYTimes.com with the account that holds the subscription.

4. Save or screenshot the cancellation confirmation and keep the confirmation email.

iOS - Cancel via the App Store

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad or open the App Store.
2. Tap your Apple ID, then Subscriptions.
3. Select The New York Times subscription and tap Cancel Subscription.
4. Keep the Apple confirmation email as proof. NYT cannot cancel App Store subscriptions on your behalf.

Android - Cancel via Google Play

1. Open Google Play on your device and tap your profile icon.
2. Go to Payments and Subscriptions > Subscriptions.
3. Select The New York Times and tap Cancel Subscription.
4. Retain the Google Play confirmation for your records. NYT cannot cancel Google Play purchases for you.

2. Provide your account email and subscription details and request cancellation.

Moving abroad or relocation

Price increase

To cancel a subscription due to the subscriber's death, contact Customer Care and supply a death certificate or equivalent legal document. NYT will process the request on receipt of acceptable documentation.

Legitimate ground accepted by NYT

NYT accepts cancellations through the account portal, by third-party store cancellation for App Store/Google Play purchases, by phone, or by post for EU/UK residents. NYT states it cannot cancel subscriptions purchased via App Store or Google Play; the third-party account holder must cancel via that platform.

End of commitment and cooling-off

For annual or prepaid combined print and digital subscriptions paid in advance, cancelling after purchase triggers pro-rata refunds for unserved print copies; digital access ends immediately when cancelled, per NYT policy. For digital-only subscriptions, EU and UK residents have a 14 day cooling-off right for the initial subscription period. If you agreed to immediate performance of the digital product at purchase, you lose the full refund right but may still cancel and lose access immediately.

Before you cancel: negotiate

NYT retention offers are not published publicly. If you call Customer Care or cancel via the web, request available retention offers such as a reduced renewal price, an extended introductory rate, or a switch to a monthly plan. If you are on an introductory annual rate, state that you want an offer to continue as a subscriber and request that NYT email the offer details. Keep any written offer as proof.

Check access and final billing

After cancellation, keep the confirmation email and check your account to confirm the cancellation date and access end date. For paid plans billed annually, access normally continues until the end of the paid period. For free trials, cancellation ends access immediately.

Data, re-activation and receipts

Request a copy of any final invoice or pro-rata refund calculation if you paid in advance for print and digital combos. To reactivate, sign back in and subscribe again. Keep proof of prior cancellation to avoid duplicate charges during re-subscription periods.
