Core service

PressReader is a digital press platform that provides access to newspapers and magazines from around the world through single-user subscriptions, partner access via libraries and hotels, and corporate integrations.

Who uses it

Users include travellers, hotel guests, library patrons and business customers of partner organisations who want digital access to titles without buying physical copies.

Web (recommended)

1. Open www.pressreader.com.
2. Log in with the account that holds the subscription.
3. Click the avatar in the top-right and select My Account.
4. Open Subscriptions or Plan settings and choose Cancel or Change plan.
5. Take a screenshot of the confirmation page and save any confirmation email.

iOS (App Store)

1. If you subscribed through Apple, open iPhone Settings or App Store and go to Subscriptions.
2. Find PressReader subscription and select Cancel Subscription through Apple controls.
3. Save the Apple confirmation email or a screenshot.

Android (Google Play)

1. If subscription shows as via Google Play, open Google Play Store app > Profile > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions.
2. Choose PressReader and Cancel.
3. Save the Google Play confirmation screenshot or email.

Email / Online help

1. Open the PressReader Help Centre at PressReader Help - How to change/cancel.
2. Use the contact form or email [email protected] describing your cancellation request, include account email, last 4 digits of payment card, and screenshots.
3. Keep the customer care case number and reply email.

Post (registered letter)

1. Write a clear cancellation statement including account email, full name, and date of birth if required.
2. Send by registered post to PressReader, Crown Way, CF14 3UZ Cardiff, United Kingdom.
3. Keep proof of posting and proof of delivery.

Moving abroad or relocation

PressReader does not publish a specific relocation clause. If you need cancellation due to moving, contact Customer Care and include a proof document such as a utility bill showing the new address or a tenancy agreement. The outcome is at PressReaders discretion unless statutory rights apply.

Price increase

If PressReader raises the subscription price, UK consumer law requires disclosure of renewal cooling-off rights for some subscription contracts under the Consumer Rights Act 2024. Provide the notice of price increase and your account details to Customer Care. If the increase is applied without proper notice, you may rely on the 2024 Act rights to end the contract.

Death of subscriber

PressReader does not publish explicit rules for cancellation on death. To request cancellation, contact Customer Care and be prepared to supply a copy of the death certificate. If Pay has been taken from a card, include proof of the cardholders details and the payment records.

Legitimate ground (service not provided or unauthorised charge)

Research shows PressReader has issued refunds and removed card details in response to complaints in some cases. Provide proof such as bank statements showing the charge, screenshots of account activity demonstrating no access, and your correspondence with PressReader. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services be provided with reasonable care and skill; use these facts when escalating.

End of commitment

PressReader subscriptions automatically renew. There is no published minimum term; cancel at any time through your account or via the store where the subscription was purchased. Include account email and confirmation of cancellation when requesting final billing details.

Cooling-off (14-day right)

The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give a 14-day cooling-off period for online service contracts entered into at a distance. If you cancel within 14 days and the contract is for a paid subscription, you are entitled to a refund unless you gave express consent for immediate performance of digital content. Before you cancel: try to negotiate

Research does not report a standard retention offer that PressReader provides at scale. There are instances where PressReader reached out and issued refunds after complaints. To negotiate, contact Customer Care via the Help Centre at PressReader Help, explain why you want to leave, and request either a prorated refund or a discount. Provide your account email, recent billing evidence, and the desired outcome.

Key UK laws

Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 provide a 14-day cancellation right for distance contracts. See legislation.gov.uk.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill and limits unfair contract terms. The Consumer Rights Act 2024 adds rights specific to subscription contracts, including renewal cooling-off rights and requirements for a cooling-off notice at each renewal. How to escalate

First, complain to PressReader via the Help Centre and keep copies of all correspondence. If unsatisfied, contact Citizens Advice for next steps. If a card payment qualifies, seek chargeback from your card issuer. For major unresolved disputes concerning regulated sectors, escalate to the relevant ombudsman. The Competition and Markets Authority treats hard-to-cancel subscriptions as potentially unfair practices.

Check access and billing

After cancellation, check your account to confirm the active plan status and keep any confirmation emails or screenshots for 180 days. Expect access behaviour: if you cancel mid-billing cycle, remaining days of your paid month may be forfeited unless Customer Care agrees otherwise.

Payment details and data

Research shows customers report they cannot remove card details without deleting the account. If you want payment details removed, request account deletion in writing and keep the deletion confirmation. Save copies of any replies showing card removal or refund action.

Re-activation

If you choose to return, re-subscribe through your PressReader account or the app store you originally used. Past purchases are generally final sale and not restorable without repurchase unless PressReader agrees otherwise.
