Cancel by reason

Moving / relocation

If you cannot attend an exam due to relocation, ACCA accepts cancellation requests but requires proof. Provide a copy of a tenancy agreement, work relocation letter or utility bill showing new address. Reference the exam entry terms and ACCA Help and Support guidance.

Applicable law: Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 when the booking was made at distance.

Price increase

If ACCA raises a fee for a subscription and you signed a contract that auto-renews, the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 provides a 14 day renewal cooling-off period after an auto-renewal for contracts of 12 months or more. Submit a cancellation request within that 14 day period and quote the change in price. Attach proof of the notified price change from ACCA.

Applicable law: Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 - renewal cooling-off rights.

Death of subscriber

If the subscriber has died, ACCA will accept cancellation where family or executor provides a death certificate and proof of identity. Contact ACCA Help and Support and upload the death certificate to the case.

Legitimate ground accepted by ACCA

ACCA accepts exam cancellations for: illness supported by medical note, bereavement, employment relocation and administrative errors on the exam entry. For cancellations after the standard exam entry closing date you must raise a Help and Support case or use the exam cancellation form. Provide original documents such as medical certificates or employer letters.

Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 for performance with reasonable care and skill; Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 for distance contracts.

End of commitment

Where an annual subscription is paid, cancelling during the year will not always produce a refund unless statutory cooling-off rights apply. For students and members, ask ACCA for confirmation of pro rata refund; if none is offered, you may escalate under consumer law.

Cooling-off (14 day statutory right)

If the booking was made online or off-premises you have a 14 day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. If you paid and then cancel within 14 days, ACCA must refund without undue delay and not later than 14 days after they are informed. For exam entries booked after the standard closing date, ACCA accepts cancellation within 14 days of payment via a Help and Support case or the exam cancellation form.

Applicable law: Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013; see the Regulations.

Negotiate or save

Before you cancel - negotiate

There is no public record in the research of ACCA offering retention discounts for membership or exam fees. To request concessions, raise a Help and Support case or email [email protected] and supply reasons and supporting documents. Ask explicitly for fee credit, deferred exam entry or pro rata refund and record the case reference number.

What cancelling saves - concrete yearly saving

Use these ACCA prices for 2026 to compute annual savings:

  • Annual Subscription (Member): £326 per year. Saving if you cancel: 1 x £326 = £326 per year.
  • Annual Subscription (Student): £140 per year. Saving if you cancel: 1 x £140 = £140 per year.
  • Initial Registration one-time fee: £89. Immediate saving if you do not register: £89 one-time.

Example calculation: cancelling a member subscription saves £326 per year. If you switch from ACCA Member (annual £326) to Chartered Institute of Taxation direct route registration fee £268, the difference is £326 - £268 = £58 saved in year 1.

Cheapest real alternative from the competitor list: Chartered Institute of Taxation direct-route registration fee £268 (one-off registration fee reported in research). For management accounting study, CIMA listed a monthly study price of £55 or annual service costs of about £530.

What to do after cancelling ACCA

Check confirmations and refunds

Keep digital or paper confirmation from MyACCA, email replies or the Help and Support case reference. ACCA should issue refunds within 14 days after notification when refunds are due.

Access to resources after cancellation

Membership or student status may change immediately after cancellation. Download any personal certificates, study notes or transcripts from your account before the cancellation takes effect. If you want to rejoin later, ACCA lists a re-registration fee of £89.

Data and record keeping

Retain screenshots, confirmation emails and proof of postage for at least six months in case of a dispute. If ACCA cancels an exam, their liability is limited to a full refund of the exam fee only; travel and accommodation costs are not refunded by ACCA.

Next steps and practical checklist

Follow this checklist to cancel cleanly and keep evidence.

  • Identify what you are cancelling - exam entry, student subscription or member annual fee.
  • If cancelling an exam and you are before the standard exam entry closing date, log in to MyACCA and cancel there. Save confirmation.
  • If cancelling within 14 days of payment and after the closing date, raise a Help and Support case or complete the exam cancellation form under Customer Credit Regulations and save the case reference.
  • Email [email protected] with supporting documents if you need a written trail.
  • If sending a letter, use registered post to ACCA, Crown Way, CF14 3UZ Cardiff and keep the proof of posting.
  • Check your bank or card for the refund and expect payment within 14 days after ACCA confirms your cancellation.
  • If refund does not arrive, contact your card issuer for chargeback or Section 75 if applicable.
