BetterHelp targets adults seeking remote therapy and counselling. It provides specialised tracks for Christian faith, LGBTQ clients, teenagers with parental consent, and couples.

Web - cancel in your account

1. Go to BetterHelp Terms or sign in to your account on betterhelp.com.
2. Open Menu then Account Settings or My Account.
3. Select Payment Settings.
4. Click Cancel Membership (or Quit therapy/Change plan/Quit counselling).
5. Save the confirmation email you receive; access stays until the end of the paid period.

iOS - cancel via Apple

1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.
3. Find BetterHelp on the list and tap Cancel Subscription.
4. Apple will send a confirmation; BetterHelp cannot cancel App Store subscriptions for you.

Android - cancel via Google Play

1. Open the Google Play Store app.
2. Tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions and Subscriptions.
3. Select BetterHelp and tap Cancel subscription.
4. Keep the Google Play confirmation; BetterHelp cannot stop Google Play subscriptions.

Email / Contact form cancellation

1. Send a clear email to [email protected] requesting cancellation and include your account email and full name.
2. Or use the contact form at BetterHelp's site and request cancellation.
3. Save the support response as proof.

Post - registered letter

1. Write a clear cancellation letter with your account details and date of request.
2. Post it registered to: BetterHelp, 990 Villa St, 94041 Mountain View, USA.
3. Keep proof of postage and wait for a written reply.

Moving abroad or to a new jurisdiction

If you move and cannot continue therapy under the same service, request cancellation via email or account settings and attach proof of address change such as a utility bill or tenancy agreement. Price increase

If BetterHelp increases the recurring price, you have the right to cancel the contract if the price change is a contract variation not agreed beforehand. Provide the notice of change or your billing statement showing the new price as evidence. Death of the subscriber

The contract may be terminated on death. Submit a copy of the death certificate and proof of your relationship or authority to act for the estate. BetterHelp will review and process termination requests; refunds are discretionary except where law provides a right.

Legitimate grounds recognised by BetterHelp

BetterHelp handles refunds and early terminations on a discretionary, case-by-case basis. The company specifically honours statutory cooling-off requests where applicable. For other grounds provide supporting documents such as medical evidence, hospital discharge letters, or legal documents; BetterHelp considers such evidence when determining refunds.

End of commitment

If your plan contains a fixed commitment period (BetterHelp does not publicly disclose a mandatory minimum commitment), cancellation at the end of that period should be executed before renewal. Cooling-off (UK statutory)

Ask for a written offer and a clear expiry date for any discount.

Key UK laws

Contracts for subscriptions are covered by the Subscription Contracts (Protection of Consumers) Regulations 2024 (part of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024). Cooling-off and refunds

For card payments, consider a Section 75 claim with your card issuer if the purchase met the qualifying criteria, or request a chargeback through your bank. The Competition and Markets Authority flags hard-to-cancel subscriptions and unclear auto-renewal terms as possible unfair practices. Check access and final billing

After cancellation your account is cancelled from the date you notified BetterHelp but access continues until the end of the paid period. Expect a final billing cycle to be charged if you cancelled after the last payment was taken. Save the final invoice and the cancellation confirmation email.

Data, records and re-activation

Request a copy of your session records or invoices by emailing [email protected]. If you want to restart therapy later, you can re-activate by signing up again and choosing a plan. Keep copies of any therapist recommendations or progress notes you want to retain.
