Web cancellation

Canvas does not publish a public step-by-step web cancellation flow. If you have a Canvas account, check account settings for subscription or billing pages first. If you cannot find a web cancellation option, proceed by sending an email or a registered letter as described below.

Mobile apps (iOS and Android)

Canvas has not published platform-specific cancellation instructions. If you subscribed through an app store, use Apple or Google subscription management to cancel the store-managed subscription. For direct subscriptions billed by Canvas, cancel by email or recorded letter.

Phone cancellation

Canvas has not published a phone number for cancellations. The company lists support by email. Use email or registered post to create durable proof of cancellation.

Email cancellation

1. Compose email to [email protected] with subject line Cancel Subscription and your account ID or registered email.
2. Include date you want the cancellation to take effect and any supporting account details.
3. Request written confirmation and a refund if within statutory rights.
4. Save the sent message and any reply for proof.

Post cancellation

1. Write a signed cancellation letter addressed to Canvas, Crown Way, CF14 3UZ Cardiff, United Kingdom.
2. Include account details: full name, email, company name, subscription plan and date.
3. Send via Royal Mail Recorded Delivery and keep the receipt and tracking number.
4. Retain delivery confirmation as evidence for future disputes.

Cooling-off period (14 days)

If you bought Canvas online or off-premises you have a 14 day cooling-off right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. This 14 day period starts when the contract is formed. If the service has started with your express consent and you have acknowledged loss of the right, you lose the right to cancel for digital supply after those conditions are met. Price increase

A unilateral price increase during a fixed-term contract may be a material change that allows termination. Check your contract terms with Canvas. If Canvas raises price in breach of your contract, you can assert your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 for unfair terms and seek cancellation and a refund.

Moving / change of business location

Relocation alone is not an automatic legal ground for termination unless your contract includes a clause allowing it. Canvas has not published a relocation policy. Provide proof such as a new registered address or company paperwork when requesting termination for relocation reasons.

Death of subscriber

Death of a sole subscriber is a recognised reason to close an account. Provide a death certificate and proof that you are the executor or administrator when requesting cancellation and refund from Canvas. Canvas has not published a death policy; treat requests as contractual matters requiring documentary proof.

Legitimate grounds

Legitimate grounds include persistent service faults or breach of contract by Canvas. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill. Document faults, timestamps, and correspondence. If Canvas cannot remedy within a reasonable time, you can request termination and a refund.

End of commitment

If your subscription term ends, do not let it auto-renew if you want to stop. Confirm renewal and cancellation windows in your contract. If renewal terms are unclear or constitute an unfair practice, the Competition and Markets Authority flags such practices as potentially unlawful.

Before cancelling: negotiate

There is no public record that Canvas offers retention discounts or specific downgrades. To seek a deal, email [email protected] asking for a downgrade, discount or a pause. State your current plan, monthly cost, and a concrete target (for example reduce from £19.58 to £11.65 per user). Keep all responses in writing. If Canvas offers a reduced rate, request the offer in writing to retain as proof.

What cancelling saves you

Compute your annual saving using the published Canvas prices. If you are on Canvas LMS at the higher published rate of £19.58 per user per month: 19.58 x 12 = £234.96 per user per year. If you downgrade or cancel in favour of the cheapest competitor, Keepr at £9 per month: 9 x 12 = £108 per year. Annual saving per user when switching from Canvas at £19.58 to Keepr at £9 is 234.96 - 108 = £126.96 per year.

Key UK consumer law

Relevant laws include the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 also covers cooling-off rights for digital services. Refunds and time limits

Where cancellation is valid under the Regulations, traders must reimburse payments without undue delay and within 14 days of being informed of cancellation. Reimbursement must be by the same payment method unless otherwise agreed and no fees can be charged for reimbursement. See the legislation for details: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

Escalation if Canvas refuses

First complain to Canvas using [email protected] and recorded delivery to their Cardiff address. If unresolved, seek help from Citizens Advice and consider a chargeback via your card issuer or Section 75 protection if the payment qualifies. The Competition and Markets Authority can act on unclear auto-renewal and hard-to-cancel subscriptions.

Access and data retention

Ask Canvas in writing how long your account data will be retained and request export of dashboards and datasets before cancellation. If Canvas stores important business data, export immediately after cancelling to avoid data loss.

Final billing and refunds

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations you are entitled to a refund within 14 days where cancellation rights apply. If the service was supplied during the cooling-off period with your express consent and acknowledgement of losing the right to cancel, you may owe a proportionate fee for the period of service supplied.

Re-activation

If you plan to return, ask Canvas for re-activation terms and any data import options. Obtain any promotional or legacy rates in writing before re-subscribing.
