If you are moving premises or the business is relocating, Dext accepts normal contract termination only if the move affects the service delivery and you hold a valid subscription right allowing termination; provide proof in writing (new business address or closure certificate). Dext-specific acceptance of relocation as a termination ground is not published by Dext. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 only where the contract was formed online and the service qualifies as a consumer contract.
If Dext increases the price at renewal, you can cancel before the renewal becomes effective and you will not be charged the increased amount after expiry. Provide the notification you received from Dext and your cancellation notice. Legal basis: Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 requires clear renewal and notice information for subscription renewals.
For individual-owned accounts where the account holder has died, provide a copy of the death certificate and evidence of authority to act for the estate (executor or administrator) to request cancellation. Dext does not publish a dedicated death policy; follow the documented process by contacting [email protected] and sending certified proof.
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 services must be performed with reasonable care and skill. If Dext fails to provide the agreed features (for example, document extraction fails repeatedly), document the failures, send a formal complaint and request termination. Keep all correspondence. Legal basis: Consumer Rights Act 2015.
If you are on an annual plan you must cancel at least 30 days before renewal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the prepaid period and no further charges will apply. For subscriptions purchased through Apple or Google Play you must cancel via the store. Legal basis: Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 and Dext help guidance.
If you bought the subscription online and the contract is a consumer contract you have a 14-day cooling-off right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. For renewal cooling-off rights created by the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, a renewal cooling-off period also applies. Provide a clear written statement of cancellation to Dext (email or platform). The trader must provide a cooling-off notice for each renewal period. Reference: Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 and Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
Research shows no publicly reported standard retention offers from Dext. If you prefer to keep the service, request a retention offer by emailing [email protected] and ask for a reduced rate or a different plan. Script: "I am the Business Admin for [business name]. I wish to cancel but would consider staying if you can offer a discount or plan change. Please advise any retention options and the expiry or trial details." Save any written offer.
Example savings using published Dext prices and competitor prices:
Cheapest competitor from our list: Taxmo for Accountants at £4.99 per month = £4.99 x 12 = £59.88 per year. If you switch from Dext Business Standard (£290) to Taxmo (£59.88) you save £290 - £59.88 = £230.12 per year. All Dext prices exclude VAT. Sources: Dext pricing and competitor pricing in this guide.
Key protections are the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (services must be performed with reasonable care and skill), the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 (14-day cooling-off for online contracts), and the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 which adds specific subscription renewal and cooling-off rules. The CMA enforces unfair contract terms and hard-to-cancel practices.
The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 provide a 14-day cooling-off period for most online sales and the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 provides renewal cooling-off rights. No penalty or charge may be imposed for cancelling during a cooling-off period. On cancellation the trader must provide an end-of-contract notice and refund any overpayment within 24 hours for online notifications or 3 working days for other methods where the law requires.
First complain in writing to Dext via [email protected]. If you cannot resolve the issue, contact Citizens Advice for next steps and consider chargeback or Section 75 with your card issuer for qualifying transactions. Complaints about unfair auto-renewal or hard-to-cancel practices can be reported to the CMA.
After cancellation the subscription remains active until the paid period ends. When the subscription expires Dext features like document extraction will no longer be available, but you can still access your account and download data. Dext reserves the right to delete accounts after a subscription has expired.
Before expiry download all documents and exported data. Export bookkeeping data and CSVs, download PDFs of invoices and receipts, and export any client lists. Contact [email protected] for help exporting larger data sets.
Keep any end-of-contract notice and check that no charges occur after the expiry date. If you think you are owed a refund contact [email protected] and reference the expiry date. Statutory refund rights may apply under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024.
