Web - delete account steps

1. Log in to your Mailchimp account.
2. Click your profile icon and go to Account & billing or Account.
3. Open the Settings dropdown and choose Manage my plan.
4. Click Delete my account and follow the prompts.
5. Confirm your password, type DELETE when requested, then click Permanently delete.
6. Note: Mailchimp may show retention suggestions or an option to speak to support before finalising.

Web - pause Marketing plan (alternative to cancelling)

1. Log in and click your profile icon > Account & billing or Account.
2. Open Settings > Manage my plan > Temporarily pause my Marketing plan.
3. Select 3 months or 6 months and confirm. Pauses are limited to 2 within any 12 month period.
4. During a pause you retain data and can create/edit campaigns and view reports; Websites plan remains active.

Email / support

1. Compose email to [email protected] explaining you want to close the account or claim a refund within the 60-day guarantee if eligible.
2. Include account username, registered email and last 4 digits of payment method if asking about billing.
3. Keep the reply as proof.

Post (registered letter)

1. Prepare a signed letter requesting account closure and include account email and ID.
2. Send by registered post to: Mailchimp, 600 W Peachtree St NW, 30308 Atlanta, USA.
3. Keep registered post receipt as proof of sending.

Moving / change of business location

Changing your business location is not recognised by Mailchimp as an automatic right to cancel with refund. Close your account in the web interface or pause the Marketing plan for 3 or 6 months using account settings. Keep exports of audience data before closure.

Price increase

If Mailchimp increases prices, you can close your account. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 requires a renewal cooling-off notice on renewal periods; check renewal notices for your right to cancel at the start of a renewal cooling-off period. Provide the renewal notice or billing statement as proof when disputing charges.

Death of subscriber

For an account holder who has died, an executor should contact Mailchimp support at [email protected] and provide a death certificate and proof of executor status. Mailchimp's published deletion process via the account cannot be used without access to credentials; use email and legal documents to request account closure.

Legitimate ground / compliance removal

Mailchimp's Compliance Team may disable accounts for abuse or compliance issues. If Mailchimp terminates for compliance, refunds are not provided for unused Pay as You Go credits. If you believe termination was in error, provide transaction logs, campaign records and identity documents to Mailchimp support.

End of commitment (annual plans)

Annual Paid Marketing Plans are billed for 12 months when chosen. If you wish to close during the billing cycle, contact sales; Mailchimp states no refund will be issued unless you are within the 60-day money-back guarantee period for annual Paid Marketing Plans. Use the purchase invoice as proof.

Cooling-off (consumer cancellation)

The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 provide a 14-day cooling-off period for many online contracts. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 provides consumers a right to cancel during renewal cooling-off periods; cancellation is effective when you notify the trader with a clear statement. Keep the account deletion confirmation or registered post receipt as evidence.

Before you cancel: try to negotiate

Mailchimp offers the option to pause Marketing plans for 3 or 6 months (limited to 2 pauses every 12 months). If you close and later want access, contact Mailchimp sales to regain access; access reactivation during the billing cycle may be handled by sales.

Retain proof

Keep on-screen deletion confirmation, support emails, payment receipts and registered post receipts. These documents are evidence if you challenge further charges.
