Company facts

Web - cancel via Realm account

1. Sign in at your Realm account dashboard.
2. Open Account, then Billing or Subscription section.
3. Locate the active subscription and choose Cancel Subscription or Turn Off Auto-Renew.
4. Follow on-screen confirmations. Keep any confirmation message or screenshot.

iOS - cancel via Apple App Store

1. Open iPhone Settings and tap your name.
2. Select Subscriptions.
3. Find Realm in the list and tap Cancel Subscription.
4. Confirm cancellation. Apple will send a confirmation email; the subscription remains active until the paid period ends.

Android - cancel via Google Play

1. Open the Google Play Store app and tap your profile icon.
2. Choose Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
3. Select Realm and tap Cancel subscription, then follow prompts.
4. Save the Google Play confirmation email or screenshot.

Other stores (Microsoft Store etc.)

1. Open the relevant store account page (Microsoft, Amazon, etc.).
2. Go to Subscriptions or Services and find Realm.
3. Cancel auto-renewal per that store's flow and keep confirmation.

Email

1. If you purchased directly and cannot cancel online, prepare an email containing your account email, subscription ID, date of purchase and proof of purchase.
2. Send it to Realm support. Response times are not publicly disclosed; keep copies of all messages.

Post (registered letter)

1. Write a clear letter stating you want to cancel and include account email and subscription ID.
2. Send by Recorded Delivery to: Realm, 124 Finchley Road, NW3 5JS London, United Kingdom.
3. Keep the delivery receipt as proof; this provides legal proof of notification under UK consumer law.

Cooling-off period (14 days)

Rule - For online distance contracts you have a 14-day cooling-off right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. If you cancel within 14 days from contract date you are entitled to a full refund unless you gave express consent to start the service immediately and asked for performance to begin, which may allow the trader to deduct costs for services already supplied.

Required proof - order confirmation showing contract date; payment receipt or app store purchase receipt.

Price increase

Rule - If Realm increases the price during a subscription, a change in contract terms must be accepted by you. If the price increase is not contractually permitted or is applied without proper notice, you may treat the change as a breach and cancel with potential remedies under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Death of the subscriber

Rule - In the event of the account holder's death, the estate or an authorised representative may cancel the subscription and request to stop future billing.

Required proof - death certificate and proof of authority (executor or administrator) or written instruction from the estate.

Moving / change of circumstances

Rule - Moving abroad is not an automatic contractual right to cancel unless the service cannot be provided as contracted. Check your contract; retain proof of change of address if you assert impossibility of performance.

Required proof - new address documentation or travel documents.

End of commitment

Rule - If your subscription has a fixed minimum term, cancellation is effective at the end of that term unless early termination clauses apply. Realm did not publicly publish minimum commitment lengths in research data.

Required proof - original subscription terms showing end date.

Legitimate ground (defective service / unauthorized billing)

Rule - If Realm fails to perform the service with reasonable care and skill, or you have unauthorized charges, you can complain and seek redress under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and via your payment provider. Realm's published position is that it does not provide refunds for subscriptions as a standard policy, but you can escalate disputes.

Before cancelling - negotiate

Retention offers reported in public research are not documented for Realm. There is no published evidence of standard discount or retention packages provided by Realm. To request a retention or savings offer, follow these steps:

1. Cancel through the preferred channel but explain you are considering cancellation for price reasons.
2. Contact Realm support from the account email and request available discounts or a lower tier plan, specifying the plan you use and your target price.
3. Ask for a time-limited retention offer in writing and keep any written offer as proof.

Cheapest real alternative: Firebase offers a free tier (no monthly fee) for developers, price_monthly £0. Using the free tier is a valid low-cost alternative for many development projects.

Key UK consumer law

The main laws and regulators that protect UK consumers are the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) enforces rules on unfair contract terms and hard-to-cancel subscriptions. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 introduces strengthened rights on subscription cancellation and renewals; see specific section: DMCC Act section 264.

Access and final billing

When you cancel, billing stops for future periods but the subscription typically remains active until the end of the period you paid for. Realm's published position is that refunds for subscriptions are not generally offered; after cancellation you can continue to use the service until expiry of paid time.

Data and account deletion

Request account data export and account deletion via your account dashboard or support. Keep copies of exported data. Research reports user difficulty deleting accounts in some public reviews; retain all correspondence and dates of requests.

Re-activation

To re-activate, sign in to your Realm account and resubscribe via the Billing or Subscription page. If you used a store (Apple/Google) to subscribe originally, re-activation may require using the same store account.
