Cooling-off (change of mind)
Rule: For online, telephone or mail-order purchases, you have 14 days to cancel and receive a full refund. For digital Railcards this 14-day period starts from the day you receive the token to download the Railcard to the app. If you cancel within that period Railcard will reimburse all payments no later than 14 days after notification. If you download the digital Railcard before the 14 days expire, you lose the right to cancel.
Required proof: date you received the token (email or order confirmation), order reference, clear statement of cancellation.
Law: Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
Moving abroad or changing address
Rule: There is no published special rule on refunds for moving after the 14-day cooling-off period. If you cancel within the 14-day cooling-off period use the standard procedure and supply proof of order date. After 14 days refunds are not provided as a matter of standard policy per the research data.
Required proof: proof of order date to show cancellation inside 14 days. For changes after 14 days, Railcard does not publish an entitlement to a refund.
Law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies to service standards; cancellation rights depend on the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 where applicable.
Price increase
Rule: Railcards are sold at fixed durations. Research provides no published entitlement to cancel for a mid-term price increase by Railcard. If a contractual term is unfair or misrepresented, Consumer Rights Act 2015 may apply.
Required proof: written evidence of the advertised price at purchase and any subsequent change.
Law: Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Death of the subscriber
Rule: There is no published Railcard policy in the research specifically offering refunds or pro-rata cancellations on death outside the 14-day cooling-off period. Use the 14-day cooling-off if applicable. For other compassionate requests contact customer relations with supporting documents; outcome is at Railcard discretion and not guaranteed by the published cooling-off rules.
Required proof: death certificate and order reference where requested by Railcard (Railcard may request evidence).
Law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 provides general protections on unfair terms; specific entitlement to refund is not published.
Legitimate ground accepted by Railcard
Rule: The research lists that Railcard accepts cancellations made by clear statement within the 14-day cooling-off period. No other specific "legitimate grounds" are published in the official sources used for this guide.
Required proof: depends on the reason; for cooling-off supply order details and token receipt date.
Law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
End of commitment
Rule: Railcards run for the purchased term (1 year or 3 years). There is no automatic prorated refund for unused time after the 14-day cooling-off period in the research data.
Required proof: order details. For renewal cancellation manage via account or by contacting customer relations before auto-renewal if enabled.
Law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 and CMA guidance on renewals and fairness.
