If you bought a service online, by phone or by mail-order you have a 14-day cooling-off right to cancel and receive a full refund. If you asked Co-op to start providing services during the 14 days, Co-op can deduct a pro-rata amount for the services provided. This follows the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. See Citizens Advice and the legislation at Cooling-off rights (2024).
If Co-op increases a monthly price mid-contract and you did not accept the price increase in your original contract, UK rules require providers to notify you and give you the right to cancel without penalty. For mobile services this includes the right to cancel if you do not want to pay the rise. Keep the written notice as proof. Applicable regulators include Ofcom for mobile services.
If you permanently move outside the UK and the service cannot be provided at your new address, provide proof of address abroad (utility bill, dated tenancy agreement or official relocation document) to request cancellation. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires fair treatment; Co-op must not impose disproportionate termination penalties.
If account holder dies, contact Co-op with a copy of the death certificate and the account reference. Ask for account closure and refund where applicable. Keep written confirmation from Co-op.
If Co-op fails to provide the service with reasonable care and skill under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you can cancel and request a refund. Provide evidence such as screenshots, correspondence, or fault reports supporting your claim.
If your plan is a fixed-term contract that reaches its end date, you can cancel effective from the end date without penalty. If your plan is a 30-day rolling agreement (Co-op Mobile), there is no long-term commitment and you give 30 days notice to stop service. See Co-op Mobile terms referenced in the product portal.
There are no widely reported, standard retention offers for Co-op in the research data. If you want to attempt a retention offer, call the product helpline (for Travel Insurance 0330 400 1511) or use the chat in your Co-op account and ask for a retention or discount. Script: state your account number, say you are considering cancellation, ask if any cheaper plan, discount, or loyalty credit is available. Request any offer in writing so you can compare it exactly.
Use real Co-op Mobile plan prices to compute yearly savings.
Example 1 - Co-op Mobile 30GB plan: £17.00 x 12 = £204.00 per year.
Example 2 - Co-op Mobile 10GB plan: £13.00 x 12 = £156.00 per year.
Example 3 - Co-op Mobile unlimited minutes, texts and data: £39.00 x 12 = £468.00 per year.
Cheapest realistic alternative among mainstream MVNOs: giffgaff is often marketed as lower-cost for pay monthly SIM-only plans. Pricing for alternatives changes frequently; verify the current price before switching. Compare the yearly totals above to the competitor offer you find and subtract to get your exact saving (for example, switching from Co-op 30GB at £204.00/year to a £12/month alternative equals a saving of £204.00 - (12 x 12 = £144.00) = £60.00 per year).
Relevant laws and regulators: Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 provide a 14-day cooling-off right for most online and phone contracts. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services to be supplied with reasonable care and skill and protects against unfair contract terms. For subscription and renewal protections see the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024. Financial products such as travel insurance are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
Cooling-off gives you a right to a refund within 14 days. If a service has been supplied during the 14 days at your request, the trader can deduct a pro-rata charge for the service supplied. If Co-op refuses a lawful refund or applies an unfair penalty, escalate your complaint to Citizens Advice via Citizens Advice - cancelling a service. For insurance disputes, use the Financial Ombudsman Service. For mobile complaints, you can raise the issue with Ofcom or the relevant communications ombudsman. Refer to the legislation at UK cooling-off legislation (2024).
After cancellation, review your final bill to confirm the date service ends, any pro-rata charges and any refund due. For Co-op Mobile a 30-day rolling plan typically charges for the full billing period; check the exact billing cycle in your account.
Download copies of invoices, policy documents and any receipts before account closure. For mobile, transfer your phone number using a PAC code or equivalent before cancellation if you want to keep your number.
If you cancelled under the 14-day cooling-off period, expect a refund. If services were used during cooling-off, Co-op can deduct a pro-rata amount. For travel insurance single-trip policies cancelled outside cooling-off you may be due 50% refund if the policy has not started and the refund equals at least £25. For annual multi-trip policies cancelled outside cooling-off the refund formula is 5% of the total premium for each full calendar month remaining, subject to a minimum refund of £25; if refund would be below £25, no refund is made.
