Moving - change of delivery address
If you move before the item ships, message the seller immediately and request cancellation. Sellers decide cancellations for orders. Provide proof such as proof of new address or a tracking history showing non-dispatch if applicable.
Applicable law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 when buyer returns goods after delivery.
Price increase
Price increases for a listed item do not change an already placed order. If a seller increases price after purchase and will not dispatch, request cancellation and refund through the seller Messages. Provide the order confirmation as proof.
Death of subscriber
If a buyer dies, the next of kin should contact the seller via Messages and provide evidence such as a death certificate. Sellers may cancel and refund at their discretion. Keep message records.
Legitimate ground - seller-initiated cancellations
Sellers may cancel a transaction under Etsy policy if payment failed, seller refuses service and refunds the payment, buyer did not receive the item and seller issued a refund, or the buyer returned the item and seller refunded it. Required proof: payment records, shipping tracking, and message evidence. These rules are stated in Etsy transaction cancellation guidance.
End of commitment
There is no minimum commitment required to have a buyer account. For paid seller subscriptions like Etsy Plus or Pattern cancel within account settings to stop auto-renewal. Keep confirmation screenshots as proof of cancellation.
Cooling-off period (14 days)
For buyers in the UK the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 provide a 14-day right to cancel for distance contracts from the day the buyer receives the goods. Provide proof of return shipment and the seller must reimburse payments within 14 days of being informed of the cancellation or receiving the returned goods.
Applicable law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Exceptions include custom-made items, downloaded digital content where download started with express consent, perishable goods and unsealed items not suitable for return for health or hygiene reasons.
