Cancel HP Ink the easy way

Overview

HP Ink refers to HP Instant Ink, a subscription service that delivers ink cartridges automatically and charges a fixed monthly fee based on the number of pages you print. Plans include ink, delivery and prepaid recycling.

How it charges

Plans are priced by page allowance per month rather than the volume of ink used. Monthly plans in the UK include 10 pages for £1.79, 50 pages for £4.49, 100 pages for £6.49, 300 pages for £13.49 and 700 pages for £28.99.

Web (recommended)

1. Open your browser and go to www.hpinstantink.com/cancel.
2. Sign in with your HP account credentials if prompted.
3. Follow the cancellation wizard and confirm cancellation. Take a screenshot of the confirmation page.
4. Save any confirmation email you receive as proof.

Email (withdrawal during cooling-off)

1. Compose an email clearly stating your decision to cancel or to exercise your 14-day withdrawal right.
2. Send to [email protected] from the email attached to your account.
3. Keep the sent email and any out-of-office or reply as proof. If you want recorded delivery, also send a registered letter.

Moving address

Price increase

Cooling-off and refunds

You have a 14-day right to withdraw from a distance contract. If you exercise this right within 14 days of conclusion, notify HP using a clear statement. No penalty may be imposed under these cooling-off provisions. HP's own terms state that no refunds are provided for unused Service Plan Pages or Rollover Pages after the last month; statutory rights still apply for withdrawal and for services not performed with reasonable care and skill under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Escalation route

If HP refuses a valid right, first complain to HP in writing. If unresolved contact Citizens Advice and your local Trading Standards for consumer mediation. For misleading subscription or auto-renewal practices, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is the regulator that investigates unfair subscription practices. Check final billing and confirmation

After cancellation expect your subscription to remain active until the last day of the current billing period. Save any confirmation email or screenshot. Verify the amount on your final card statement for that billing period.

Cartridge access and re-activation

HP will remotely disable the Subscription Cartridge after cancellation. To continue printing you must buy new HP original cartridges or compatible third-party cartridges if your printer permits. If you later re-subscribe, you may need to replace disabled cartridges. Keep records of cartridge model numbers and account details for re-activation.

Data and recycling

HP's service includes prepaid recycling for returned cartridges while subscribed. After cancellation, recycling labels may no longer be provided. Keep any postage labels you received and follow HP's guidance for returns while the account remains active.
