Cooling-off period (Consumer Contracts Regulations)

If you bought the ESET service online, by phone or by mail-order you have a 14-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. The period starts the day after the contract is formed. Price increase

If ESET increases the price of your subscription and your contract includes a fixed-term commitment, you may be entitled to cancel. Provide the price increase notice and your subscription details to ESET or the reseller. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill; an unexpected contractual change that is unfair may be challenged.

Death of subscriber

To cancel a subscription after the subscriber dies, provide a death certificate and proof of authority (executor letter or probate). Send documents to the partner who sold the subscription or to ESET's support channel. The company will process termination on receipt of the required documents.

Substantial breach or security grounds

ESET or the customer may terminate the Terms with immediate effect by written notice where there is a substantial breach and it remains unremedied for over thirty 30 days after written notice. Before you cancel - negotiate

ESET sometimes offers renewal pricing or retention offers when you contact the partner or ESET support. The public information states ESET offers auto-renewal with special renewal pricing and informs customers 30 days before renewal. To ask for a retention offer send an email or contact your reseller and request the renewal price in writing and any promotional discount. If no written offer is provided, request that the seller confirm the final renewal price.

Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013

For services bought online, by phone or by mail-order in the UK you have a 14-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. If you asked the trader to start the service within that period the trader may charge for the service provided up to cancellation. If a digital download began with your express consent the cooling-off period is lost for that content.

Consumer Rights Act 2015 and unfair terms

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill and protects consumers from unfair contract terms including disproportionate cancellation penalties. If a term is unfair it is not binding.

Auto-renewal and the CMA

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) treats unclear auto-renewal and hard-to-cancel subscriptions as potential unfair practices. ESET publicly states it uses auto-renewal and informs customers 30 days before renewal; if you cannot find a simple way to cancel you can raise a complaint with Citizens Advice and the CMA may take interest in systemic issues.

How to escalate

Access and software

After cancellation your licence will stop at the end date specified in the cancellation confirmation. If you cancelled within the 30-day money-back window and a refund is approved your account will be closed and you will lose access to premium features on the cancellation date or on refund processing.
