MacPaw develops macOS utilities and apps such as CleanMyMac and Gemini that focus on system cleaning, duplicate removal, privacy and security. Their products are sold directly via the MacPaw Store and through the Apple App Store.

Business model

MacPaw sells one-time licences and subscriptions. Subscriptions include monthly and annual billing; purchases made through the App Store are managed by Apple and must be cancelled through Apple.

Use cases

Typical users want to free disk space, remove duplicates, and protect privacy on macOS. MacPaw targets users who prefer graphical, automated maintenance tools rather than manual macOS utilities.

Web - cancel via your MacPaw Account

1. Go to your MacPaw Account on the MacPaw website.
2. Sign in with the email used to purchase.
3. Choose the product subscription you want to Cancel (for example CleanMyMac).
4. Click 'Cancel Subscription' and follow the prompts; status will update to 'Inactive' in 2-3 minutes.
5. Keep the confirmation email for proof.

iOS / macOS - cancel through the App Store

1. Open the App Store app on your Mac or iPhone.
2. Click your name in the lower-left corner or use Account Settings.
3. Scroll to 'Manage' and select 'Subscriptions'.
4. Find CleanMyMac or the relevant app and click 'Cancel Subscription' then confirm.
5. The subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period; Apple sends an email confirmation.

Email - request cancellation by email

1. Compose an email to [email protected] with subject 'Cancel subscription'.
2. Include your full name, order number, purchase email address and product name.
3. Request explicit confirmation of cancellation and retention of confirmation email as proof.
4. Allow 24-72 hours for a reply; if no reply, escalate using a registered letter.

Phone / Live support

1. MacPaw does not publish a direct phone number for cancellations; use email or account cancellation.
2. If you require live assistance, request a callback via MacPaw support channels on their site where available.

Post - cancel by registered letter

1. Send a signed letter to MacPaw, 160 City Road, EC1V 2NX London, United Kingdom.
2. Include your order number, email used for purchase, and a clear statement 'Please Cancel my subscription'.
3. Keep proof of postage and delivery and await written confirmation from MacPaw.

Cooling-off (14 day right to cancel)

If you bought a subscription online, you have a 14 day cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. To exercise it, inform MacPaw in writing by email or post within 14 days of contract conclusion. If you request a refund within the cooling-off period, MacPaw must reimburse payments within 14 days of being informed.

Price increase

If MacPaw increases the subscription price, you may cancel if the price rise is part of an automatic renewal where the contract allows cancellation because of the change. Provide the notice of price increase (email or account message) as proof.

Moving abroad or change of device

MacPaw does not list moving as an automatic refund reason. If you need cancellation for device incompatibility, MacPaw may decline refunds for wrong platform purchases per their policy.

Death of subscriber

Fraudulent purchase or unauthorised transaction

MacPaw will consider refunds for fraudulent purchases. If you believe a transaction is fraudulent, contact MacPaw support and your card issuer immediately; MacPaw may request evidence of fraud.

End of commitment

For subscriptions with a fixed-paid period, cancellation stops automatic renewal but does not refund the remainder of a paid period except where MacPaw refund policy allows. After cancellation the app remains functional until the paid period ends.

Before cancelling: negotiate

MacPaw does not publish retention offers in its support pages. There are no public reports of automatic discount or retention vouchers. To request a retention offer, email [email protected] with your purchase details, state that you are considering cancellation, and ask whether a renewal discount, extended trial, or downgrade is available. Cooling-off and digital content exception

You have a 14 day cooling-off right for most online purchases. The right is lost if digital content is supplied during the period and you expressly consent that the supply begins and acknowledged you lose the right to cancel. If you started a subscription immediately and agreed in writing, MacPaw can treat the subscription as supplied during the cooling-off period.

Auto-renewal and CMA guidance

The Competition and Markets Authority expects companies to avoid hard-to-cancel subscriptions and to make renewal terms clear. If you face unclear renewal terms or hard-to-cancel processes, complain first to MacPaw, then to Citizens Advice for next steps and to your card issuer for chargeback.

Escalation steps

1) Complain to MacPaw support and keep written evidence. 2) Use Citizens Advice for guidance. 3) If payment was by card, consider chargeback or Section 75 (for qualifying card payments). 4) For unresolved complaints about fairness of terms, contact the CMA or Trading Standards.

Check account status and confirmation

After cancelling via the MacPaw Account or App Store, keep the cancellation confirmation email. MacPaw indicates subscription status will show 'Inactive' in 2-3 minutes for MacPaw Store cancellations; Apple provides its own email confirmation for App Store cancellations.

Access and data

Your app will remain functional until the end of the current billing period. If you want data exported (settings, licence info), request it from MacPaw support before the licence expires. For refunds and data questions use MacPaw refund request.

Final billing and refunds

If you are eligible for a refund, MacPaw's policy states a 30 day money-back guarantee for purchases from macpaw.com, and for subscriptions with billing intervals of one month or less purchased on or after 23 November 2024, refund requests must be submitted within 14 days of the initial purchase. Re-activation

If you decide to re-subscribe later, sign in to your MacPaw Account or repurchase via the App Store. Re-activation terms depend on the offer available at the time of re-subscription.
