Cancel by reason

Moving or business closure

If your organisation ceases to operate or moves to a new communication platform, the workspace owner may cancel the subscription via the Billing console. Provide official documents only if requested by Slack, for example company dissolution paperwork if asked.

Price increase

If Slack increases the price, UK consumer protections under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 prevent charging a consumer a higher price during a subscription term without consent. For businesses, check your contract terms. Keep the price change notice and cancel before the next renewal if you do not accept the new price. See the Slack updates page: Updates to feature availability and pricing.

Death of subscriber

If the named account owner has died, provide a copy of the death certificate and proof of authority for the person requesting account changes. Slack's User Terms indicate account termination is handled by the Customer that subscribed to Slack or by Slack. Send supporting documents to [email protected].

Legitimate ground recognised by Slack

Slack's User Terms state that access to services can be terminated by the Customer (the subscribing organisation) or Slack. Slack accepts cancellation requests from the Customer or authorised billing contacts. Legal notices may be sent to [email protected]. Applicable source: Slack User Terms.

End of commitment (annual plan)

For annual subscriptions the contract runs for the paid year. Cancel before the renewal date to prevent automatic renewal. Access continues until the end of the paid annual term.

Cooling-off (14-day) and digital services

Under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 a consumer may cancel a distance contract within 14 days. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 introduces rights to cancel during an initial cooling-off period and any renewal cooling-off period for subscription contracts. If the service began during the 14-day period and you agreed to immediate performance, the provider may charge for services already supplied. References: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024.

Negotiate or save

Before you cancel - how to negotiate

Slack does not publish standard retention discounts in public documentation. If you want to keep the workspace at a lower cost contact your billing admin support through the workspace Billing console and ask for retention offers or trial extensions. If you are on a paid plan and billed by Apple or Google Play, request an offer through those app store support channels.

What cancelling saves you - yearly saving examples

Compute yearly savings by plan using official prices per user.

Pro monthly: £8.75 x 12 = £105.00 per user per year.

Pro annual: £6.67 x 12 = £80.04 per user per year.

Business+ monthly: £14.10 x 12 = £169.20 per user per year.

Business+ annual: £12.00 x 12 = £144.00 per user per year.

Example saving when switching from Business+ monthly to Workchats at £4.00/month: Business+ monthly cost £169.20/year minus Workchats annual cost £3.00 x 12 = £36.00/year gives a saving of £133.20/year per user.

Cheapest real alternative from our competitor list: Workchats at £4.00/month (£48.00/year). See competitors block for details.

What to do after cancelling Slack

Access and data

After cancellation your workspace remains accessible until the end of the current paid billing period. Export data or download important files and messages before the end of access if you need them. For data export and retention features see Slack admin tools in workspace settings.

Final billing and refunds

Slack's policy states that if consumer laws apply and cannot be excluded, Slack may offer a pro-rata refund for prepaid fees for the unused portion of the term. Slack also describes Fair Billing practices in its support pages. If you paid via Apple or Google Play, refunds are issued by those stores. See Slack's help and Fair Billing Policy: Slack Fair Billing Policy.

Re-activation

You can re-activate a workspace by subscribing again; workspace owners can restore a workspace using the Billing console. If data was exported before deletion you can re-import files according to Slack's import procedures.

Next steps and practical checklist

Follow this checklist to cancel cleanly and protect your data and payments.

  • Identify the workspace owner or billing admin account.
  • Decide whether the subscription was purchased via Slack, Apple App Store, or Google Play.
  • For Slack-billed accounts: cancel from the Billing console and save the on-screen confirmation and email.
  • For App Store or Google Play: cancel from your device subscriptions and keep the store confirmation.
  • Export any files, messages or compliance exports you need before access ends.
  • If you expect a refund, request it in writing and save Slack responses.
  • If you have a dispute about automatic renewal or fees, prepare evidence and contact Citizens Advice or your card issuer for chargeback/Section 75 if eligible.
