Moving or permanently leaving the UK
If you permanently move abroad and cannot use AA Roadside Assistance in the UK, provide proof such as a change of UK address, immigration documentation, or utility bills showing the new overseas address. AA's published documents do not list a specific form; attach the proof to your cancellation request. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
Price increase
If AA increases your premium, review your policy renewal notice. If the price rise is applied at renewal and you do not accept it, you can cancel before renewal. Keep the renewal notice as proof. Applicable law: Competition and Markets Authority guidance on unfair contract terms and auto-renewal.
Death of the policyholder
If the named policyholder dies, AA accepts cancellation and will consider a pro-rata refund. Provide a copy of the death certificate to request cancellation and refund. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
Permanent inability to drive
If you are permanently unable to drive due to illness or injury, AA may allow cancellation with a pro-rata refund. Provide a medical certificate or other official medical evidence. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and Consumer Rights Act 2015 regarding fair contract terms.
Legitimate grounds accepted by AA
Research shows AA accepts cancellation for death of the policyholder and permanent inability to drive as exceptions to standard refund rules. For other legitimate grounds, submit supporting documents and request a decision from AA in writing. Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
End of commitment / Annual policies
For annual policies, if you cancel within the 14-day cooling-off period and have not used the service, you can get a full premium refund minus a £20 adjustment fee. If you cancel outside cooling-off, refunds depend on AA policy terms and whether exceptional grounds apply.
Cooling-off period
The statutory cooling-off period is 14 days from purchase or receipt of policy documents, whichever is later. During the 14 days you can cancel for any reason and request a refund. If you asked AA to provide services during the cooling-off period, they can charge for services provided up to cancellation. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
