Cooling-off (14-day right)
You have a minimum 14-day cooling-off period from the date you receive your policy documents or the date you entered the contract, whichever is later. If you cancel within this period and cover has not started you are entitled to a full refund of the premium and the £28 AAISL arrangement fee. If cover has started, you will receive a pro rata premium refund but a minimum charge for cover of £15 applies and the £28 arrangement fee is retained.
Applicable law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
Cancel after cooling-off
After 14 days you may cancel at any time. The insurer will refund a pro rata percentage of the premium subject to a minimum charge for cover of £15. AAISL will charge a cancellation fee of £32.50 and will retain its £28 arrangement fee, which together equal £60.50 in typical scenarios.
Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 for fairness of contract terms.
Price increase
If AA Car Insurance increases your premium mid-term and you want to cancel for that reason, check your policy wording for a specific right to cancel without penalty. If the policy provides the right, follow the policy's cancellation steps and keep evidence of the premium change. If no explicit contractual right exists, normal cancellation rules and fees apply.
Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Death of the policyholder
If the policyholder dies, a personal representative or executor should contact AA to provide the death certificate and request cancellation or policy transfer. Proof required: original or certified copy of the death certificate and the representative's authority documentation.
Applicable law: Standard UK probate procedures and insurer requirements.
Legitimate grounds accepted by AA
From available documentation AA accepts cancellation for cooling-off, change of vehicle, sale of vehicle, or death with the proof documents requested by the insurer. For some reasons the policy may allow mid-term changes or free cancellation; check your policy schedule and contact AA to confirm required documents.
Applicable law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
Fraud or non-disclosure by policyholder
If the insurer cancels due to fraud or deliberate/reckless non-disclosure, AA or the insurer may refuse any refund of premium and arrangement fees. No refund will be made in cases where the policy is void due to fraud.
Applicable law: Consumer Insurance (Disclosure and Representations) Act 2012.
