Web (recommended)

1. Open your browser and go to https://blinkist.com/.
2. Log in using the email linked to your subscription.
3. From your profile, select Account or Manage subscription.
4. Choose Cancel subscription or Deactivate auto-renewal and confirm.
5. Save or screenshot confirmation and keep any email confirmation.

iOS - App Store

1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
2. Tap your name, then Subscriptions.
3. Select Blinkist then Cancel Subscription.
4. Apple controls refunds and trial cancellations; Blinkist cannot process App Store refunds directly (official).

Android - Google Play

1. Open Play Store and tap your profile.
2. Tap Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions > Blinkist.
3. Tap Cancel subscription and confirm.
4. If you cancel a free trial, do so at least 24 hours before it ends to avoid a charge; Google Play may place a pre-authorisation hold up to 24 hours in advance that can take up to 14 business days to clear.

Email

1. Send an email to [email protected] from the address attached to your subscription with subject: "Cancel subscription".
2. Include your full name, account email and any subscription ID.
3. Keep the reply email as proof of cancellation.

Post

1. Write a signed cancellation letter with your account email, name and request to cancel automatic renewal.
2. Send by registered post to: Blinkist, Karl-Liebknecht-Str. 32, 10178 Berlin, Germany.
3. Keep postal tracking and delivery receipt as proof.

Moving abroad or change of residence

Blinkist does not publish a specific policy for cancellation because of moving. Under UK Consumer Contracts Regulations and the cooling-off rules, cancellation is effective once you notify the trader. Provide a copy of proof of address change only if you need to request a prorated refund; Blinkist handles proration for some jurisdictions as set out in their support pages.

Price increase

If Blinkist raises the subscription price at renewal, you can cancel before the renewal takes effect. For automatic renewals consumers have the right to cancel prior to the renewal date and to be informed of renewals. Keep the notification from Blinkist about the price change as proof.

Death of subscriber

For a deceased account holder, contact Blinkist support at [email protected] and provide a copy of the death certificate and proof that you are the executor or next of kin. Blinkist does not publish a written policy but will require documentation to process closure and any refund query.

Legitimate grounds accepted by Blinkist

Based on Blinkist support pages, accepted grounds for special handling include purchase errors within the 14-day money-back guarantee for first-time purchases (web or Google Play). To request a refund, email support within 14 days of the initial purchase date with proof of purchase (official refund policy).

End of commitment

If you have a yearly subscription purchased on the website, you can cancel to prevent renewal. For German users who purchased after 1 March 2022 Blinkist allows cancellation at any time after the first year with one month notice and pro-rated refund for remaining months (website purchases); app purchases follow Apple/Google policies (official).

Cooling-off period

The UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 give a 14-day cooling-off right for online purchases. Digital content exception applies where streaming or download begins with express consent. Cancellation is effective when you notify the trader and any refund rights must follow the regulations (UK law).

Before cancelling: ask for a retention offer

Blinkist has been reported to offer refunds and support follow-up when customers escalate; one Trustpilot report notes Blinkist staff reached out and issued a refund after email escalation. If you want to keep the service at a lower cost, email [email protected], state your current plan, and ask for any promotional or student discount. There is no public list of standard retention discounts on Blinkist support pages.

What cancelling saves you - example calculation

Use your plan price to compute savings. Example Blinkist prices (as listed on Blinkist pricing page): Monthly plan: £8.99 per month; Annual plan: £47.99 per year. Yearly saving if you cancel a Monthly plan and switch to Annual: 12 x £8.99 = £107.88 per year versus £47.99 per year; switching to annual saves £59.89 per year (107.88 - 47.99 = 59.89).

If you cancel the Annual Blinkist plan and move to a free alternative you save £47.99 per year. Cheapest real alternative: free library services or free summaries at £0 per year.

Applicable UK law

The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 provide the 14-day cooling-off period for online purchases; digital content exceptions apply when streaming or download starts with consent. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services to be provided with reasonable care and skill and restricts unfair contract terms.

Auto-renewal and regulator

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) treats hard-to-cancel subscriptions and unclear auto-renewal as potential unfair practices. If Blinkist's cancellation process is unclear you may raise a complaint with Citizens Advice or the CMA for guidance.

How to escalate

1. Complain to Blinkist support at [email protected] with copies of receipts and cancellation attempts. 2. If unresolved, contact Citizens Advice for next steps. 3. Use bank chargeback or Section 75 (for qualifying credit card payments) to dispute unauthorised or incorrectly billed charges. 4. If you purchased via Apple or Google, use their refund processes for App Store or Google Play purchases.

Statutory rights and refunds

Under UK rules cancellation is effective from the time you notify the trader and refunds must follow the Consumer Contracts Regulations or relevant payment provider rules. For Blinkist web purchases, the company offers a 14-day money-back guarantee for first-time purchases; for App Store purchases, refunds are handled by Apple (Blinkist refund info).

Check access and final billing

After cancellation, confirm whether you retain access until the end of your paid period. For subscriptions terminated during a paid period you usually keep access until expiry. Save any final billing emails or screenshots.

Request and download data

Request an export of your account data from Blinkist support if you want to retain reading history. Email [email protected] to request account data or deletion.

Re-activation

If you decide to return, re-activation is generally possible through the Blinkist site or apps. Any promotional pricing for new customers may not apply to returning subscribers.
