If you move and want to end supply at the old property, provide a final meter reading and your moving date. For refunds of credit on the final bill you must provide a meter reading within 14 days of the refund request and a forwarding address. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 cooling-off rules do not apply to a simple move after supply has started unless you are switching supplier.
If your tariff includes a contractual right to end the contract on price increase, follow the termination clause in your tariff terms. If the increase represents an unfair term, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 protects against disproportionate contract terms. Check your tariff terms and send a cancellation notice referencing the price change and the relevant clause.
To close an account after a customer dies, provide a copy of the death certificate, proof of authority or executorship and a final meter reading. Request the final bill and a refund if there is credit. The supplier will close the account once it verifies documents.
Research shows E.ON Next recognises cooling-off withdrawals for a switch within 14 days, provides a grace period to pick another E.ON Next tariff, and allows return to previous tariff if reinstated during cooling-off. Evidence required typically includes account details and meter readings. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and Consumer Rights Act 2015.
When a fixed-term tariff ends, you may be moved to the standard variable tariff. If you leave after the fixed period you are not usually charged an exit fee. Check your contract for specific end-of-term exit fees listed as £25, £50 or £100 per fuel on some fixed tariffs.
If you switch supplier and then cancel within 14 days of agreeing the contract, you can withdraw the transfer. If you selected a supply start date within the cooling-off period you remain liable for energy used from that start date. If you withdraw while already on supply, E.ON Next offers an additional grace period to choose a different E.ON Next tariff or another supplier; if no action is taken you will be placed on the standard variable tariff. Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2024 - cooling-off for subscription contracts and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
E.ON Next may offer retention deals when you contact support to cancel, but the current research does not list specific retention offers by tariff. If you want to negotiate, call or message support, state your target monthly and annual price, and give a competitive quote. Ask if they can match a fixed 12-month or 24-month price. If you are within 14 days of switching, you can withdraw the switch under cooling-off rights instead of negotiating.
Use actual E.ON Next prices to calculate yearly costs for a typical dual-fuel household (Ofgem medium usage: 2,500 kWh electricity and 9,500 kWh gas per year).
Example tariffs and math:
Cheapest 24-month fixed alternative from a major supplier in August 2026 was E.ON Next Next Fixed 24m at £1,598 per year. Competitor example:
If you are on a fixed tariff with an exit fee, include that fee in your switch calculation: typical exit fees reported are £25, £50, or £100 per fuel. For example, leaving a 12-month tariff with a £50 gas exit fee and £50 electricity exit fee incurs £100 one-off in exit costs.
United Kingdom consumer law relevant to energy contracts includes the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The Consumer Rights Act 2024 added explicit cooling-off protections for subscription contracts in Part 4, Chapter 2. The CMA treats hard-to-cancel subscriptions and unclear auto-renewal terms as potential unfair practices.
The 14-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 allows you to cancel services arranged online, by phone or off-premises. If you cancel within 14 days and have paid upfront, you are entitled to a full refund. If services were provided during the cooling-off period at your request, the trader can charge for those services. For more information see Citizens Advice - Cancelling a service.
First complain to the supplier in writing. If unresolved, escalate to the Energy Ombudsman. For guidance on cancellation rights see Citizens Advice. For statutory text on cooling-off see the Consumer Rights Act 2024 at legislation.gov.uk.
Provide a final meter reading on the day supply ends. For a refund of credit you must provide a meter reading within 14 days of your refund request unless you have a smart meter that supplies remote readings.
If you request a refund of credit, E.ON Next requires a meter reading within 14 days of the request. For a final bill you must also provide a forwarding address. E.ON Next will not try to recover charges older than 12 months unless certain exceptions apply.
If you recently left E.ON Next and withdrew from a different supplier during the cooling-off period, contact E.ON Next to return to your previous tariff for the remaining duration; they place you back on your previous tariff after verification.
