Moving home

If you move and want to end supply at the old property, provide a final meter reading and your moving date. For refunds of credit on the final bill you must provide a meter reading within 14 days of the refund request and a forwarding address. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 cooling-off rules do not apply to a simple move after supply has started unless you are switching supplier.

Price increase

If your tariff includes a contractual right to end the contract on price increase, follow the termination clause in your tariff terms. If the increase represents an unfair term, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 protects against disproportionate contract terms. Check your tariff terms and send a cancellation notice referencing the price change and the relevant clause.

Death of the account holder

End of commitment

Cooling-off (withdrawal of a switch)

Before cancelling: negotiate

E.ON Next may offer retention deals when you contact support to cancel, but the current research does not list specific retention offers by tariff. If you want to negotiate, call or message support, state your target monthly and annual price, and give a competitive quote. Ask if they can match a fixed 12-month or 24-month price. If you are within 14 days of switching, you can withdraw the switch under cooling-off rights instead of negotiating.

Use actual E.ON Next prices to calculate yearly costs for a typical dual-fuel household (Ofgem medium usage: 2,500 kWh electricity and 9,500 kWh gas per year).

Example tariffs and math:

• Next Pledge (Tracker): £125.67 per month x 12 = £1,508 per year.
• Next Fixed 12m: £125.67 per month x 12 = £1,508 per year.
• Next Fixed 24m: £133.17 per month x 12 = £1,598 per year.
• Next Flex (standard variable): £138.58 per month x 12 = £1,663 per year.

Cheapest 24-month fixed alternative from a major supplier in August 2026 was E.ON Next Next Fixed 24m at £1,598 per year. Competitor example:

• OVO Energy: £165.75 per month x 12 = £1,989 per year. Switching from Next Fixed 24m at £1,598 to OVO at £1,989 would cost an extra £391 per year.

If you are on a fixed tariff with an exit fee, include that fee in your switch calculation: typical exit fees reported are £25, £50, or £100 per fuel. For example, leaving a 12-month tariff with a £50 gas exit fee and £50 electricity exit fee incurs £100 one-off in exit costs.
