Overview

The Telegraph is a UK national newspaper brand and digital publisher owned by Telegraph Media Group Limited. It provides national and international news, politics, business, sport, culture, opinion and puzzles across web, apps and print editions.

Web - cancel in My Account

1. Sign in at your Telegraph account on the website.
2. Open Manage your details and locate Subscriptions or Manage subscription.
3. Follow the Cancel subscription link and confirm cancellation.
4. Save or screenshot the confirmation page and keep any confirmation email as proof.
5. Allow up to the next payment date for cancellation to take effect; if within the first 14 days request a refund.

iOS - cancel through Apple

1. On your iPhone or iPad open Settings.
2. Tap your Apple ID, then Subscriptions.
3. Select the Telegraph subscription and choose Cancel Subscription.
4. Keep the Apple confirmation email or screenshot as proof. The billing relationship is with Apple, so refunds for in-app payments are handled by Apple.

Android - cancel through Google Play

1. Open Google Play Store on your Android device.
2. Tap your profile, then Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
3. Select Telegraph and tap Cancel subscription.
4. Keep the confirmation received from Google Play as proof. Google handles in-app refunds for Play subscriptions.

Barclays App - cancel if taken out via Barclays

1. Open the Barclays App and view the list of subscriptions or services.
2. Find the Telegraph Digital subscription taken via Barclays and select Cancel.
3. Your cancellation will take effect at the end of the month you have already paid for.
4. Keep Barclays confirmation as proof. The Telegraph cannot cancel subscriptions that were created via Barclays on your behalf.

Email

1. Send an email to [email protected] with your account details, subscription reference and clear instruction to cancel.
2. Request a written confirmation of cancellation and retain the reply for proof.
3. If you have an in-app subscription warn that refunds for Apple or Google purchases must be requested from those platforms.

Post (registered letter)

1. Send a registered letter to: Telegraph, 111 Buckingham Palace Road, SW1W 0DT London, United Kingdom with your name, account email and subscription details and the instruction Cancel my subscription.
2. Retain Royal Mail proof of posting as evidence.
3. Allow processing time until the next payment date for the cancellation to take effect.

Cooling-off period - right to a full refund

If you subscribed online you have a 14-day cooling-off period under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 to cancel and receive a full refund. The cooling-off period starts when the contract is concluded. If you cancel within 14 days you will be reimbursed all payments. Reimbursement must be made within 14 days of being informed of the cancellation.

Price increase

If a price increase is a contract variation that you did not accept, you can cancel where the change represents a change to the essential terms. Provide a copy of the price-change notice from Telegraph and your subscription details when requesting cancellation. Telegraph must respect rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 where contract terms are unfair.

Death of the subscriber

To cancel a subscription after the death of the account holder send a written request and a copy of the death certificate to [email protected] or by post to the registered address. Provide the deceased account holder name, account email and proof of authority if you are an executor. Legitimate ground - service quality or duplicated billing

If service has been supplied with a lack of reasonable care and skill, or you were billed twice because you hold both an in-app subscription and a direct subscription, gather evidence: screenshots, bank statements and emails. For in-app charges by Apple or Google, request refunds from Apple or Google because Telegraph cannot refund third-party in-app purchases.

End of commitment

If your plan is an annual plan it will renew at the end of the annual period unless cancelled. Cancel at least 48 hours before the renewal date to avoid being charged. If you cancel mid-term after the 14-day cooling-off period there is no statutory right to a pro rata refund for unused time unless contract terms state otherwise.

Before cancelling - how to negotiate with Telegraph

Telegraph retention offers are not widely published. Current promotions include 3 months free on some annual plans and student offers, but specific loyalty discounts for existing subscribers are not publicly disclosed. Print Daily subscription: £104 per month or £1248 per year. Digital annual: £39 per year. Saving: 1248 - 39 = £1209 per year.

Example 3 - Choosing a cheaper competitor:

Private Eye annual: £45 per year. Comparing Telegraph App annual cost 312 with Private Eye 45 gives 312 - 45 = £267 saved per year.

Key UK consumer law

Your rights for online subscription purchases are covered by the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The 2013 Regulations give a 14-day cooling-off right for distance contracts. What to do if Telegraph will not cancel or refund

1. Complain to Telegraph in writing and keep copies of correspondence. 2. Seek guidance from Citizens Advice at Citizens Advice. 3. If you paid by credit card and the purchase is over £100 and up to £30,000, consider a Section 75 claim with your card issuer. 4. Check access and final billing

After cancellation save the confirmation email or screenshot and check that your account status shows Cancelled or Expiring. Monitor your bank or card statement to ensure no further charges after the next payment date. If you are charged again, contact your card issuer for chargeback or Section 75 where eligible.

Data, re-activation and downloads

Your digital access usually remains until the end of the paid period. Export or save any subscriber-only content you need before access ends. To reactivate sign in and choose a new plan.
