Post (registered letter)

Moving address

Rule: The Labour Party does not publish a specific policy that moving address alone cancels membership. To cancel while moving, submit a resignation via the online form or by post. Required proof documents: proof of new address is not required to resign. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 for format of notice.

Price increase

Rule: Membership prices are published but the Rule Book does not set a price-change exit right. Required proof documents: show the new price notification if you claim a change entitles you to cancel. Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 on unfair contract terms if a specific fee is disproportionate.

Death of subscriber

Rule: Labour Party has no publicly published death-of-member procedure in the sources. Required proof documents: send a copy of the death certificate and a signed request from the executor or next of kin to the contact address. Applicable law: Not specifically listed in Rule Book 2026.

Legitimate ground

Rule: The National Executive Committee (NEC) may define membership offers and may grant continuous membership to lapsed members in exceptional circumstances if outstanding subscriptions are paid. End of commitment

Before you cancel: negotiate

Consumer law that applies

Key laws and regulators: Consumer Rights Act 2015; Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013; Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (see section 261); Competition and Markets Authority guidance on auto-renewal. These set duties on cancellation notices, unfair terms and cancellation charges.

Cooling-off and notice formalities

Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 you have a 14-day cooling-off period for most online contracts. If you cancel online, traders must provide the end of contract notice within 24 hours; for other methods it is within 3 working days as per legislation guidance (see Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 and government cancelling guidance Cancelling goods or services - GOV.UK).

Escalation steps

1) Complain to Labour Party first using the contact page https://labour.org.uk/contact/. 2) If unresolved, get advice from Citizens Advice. 3) For payment disputes, consider chargeback with your card issuer or Section 75 claim for qualifying card payments. 4) The CMA treats hard-to-cancel subscriptions as a potential unfair practice; include this in complaints if the party fails to provide an end of contract notice.

Confirm receipt and keep records

Keep the on-screen confirmation, any email or written end-of-contract notice. If you sent a registered letter, keep the postal receipt. This evidence is required if you need to escalate a dispute.

Access and data

After cancellation you will lose member privileges. If you require a data copy or deletion request, contact Labour Party via the contact page and quote data protection rights; the Rule Book indicates administrative decisions are governed by internal rules (see Rule Book 2026).

Final billing and arrears

If you are in arrears, the Rule Book states a member is in arrears if renewal day has passed or direct debits stopped; if arrears reach 6 months without payment the membership will lapse. Rejoining

• 2) Save the confirmation screen and any email received (end of contract notice).

• 4) If you have a direct debit, check your bank on the next collection date (Direct Debits are collected on the 21st of each month) and cancel the direct debit if you have confirmation of resignation.
