Cancel Figma the easy way

Overview

Figma is a cloud-based interface design, prototyping and collaboration platform used to create user interfaces, prototypes and design systems. It supports real-time collaboration between designers, developers and other stakeholders.

Who uses Figma

Figma is aimed at teams and individuals including designers, developers, product managers, researchers, marketers and writers who work on digital product experiences and need collaborative design tools.

Key facts

Figma operates a freemium model with multiple paid tiers for individuals, teams and organisations. Monthly and annual billing options exist; Organisation and Enterprise tiers include features for multiple teams and organisation-level controls.

Web - cancel via account settings

1. Sign in to your Figma account at your workspace.
2. Open Settings then Billing or Admin settings for Teams/Organizations.
3. Choose to turn off auto-renewal or remove paid seats and confirm changes.
4. Save a screenshot of the confirmation page and keep the confirmation email.

Email - cancel by writing [email protected]

1. Compose an email to [email protected] from the account's registered email address.
2. Include account name, team or organization name, last four digits of payment card, and the phrase "Cancel subscription" plus requested cancellation date.
3. Request a confirmation reply and retain the support email as proof.

Help Center - open a ticket

1. Visit the Figma Help Center and create a support request with billing as the topic. See Guide to billing at Figma for guidance.
2. Attach screenshots of your billing page and provide the account owner email.
3. Keep the ticket ID and the email replies for proof.

Post - send registered letter

1. Write a signed cancellation letter including account name, email, organisation or team name and clear instruction to cancel at the end of the billing period.
2. Send by registered post to Figma, Floor 11 Whitefriars, Lewins Mead, BS1 2NT Bristol, United Kingdom.
3. Keep the postal receipt as proof of sending.

Moving or relocating

If you move between countries this does not automatically terminate a paid subscription. To stop renewal, cancel in account settings or contact support with proof of new address if you require billing changes. Provide a utility bill or rental agreement as proof when asking support to change billing region.

Price increase

If Figma increases the price at renewal and you do not accept the new price, you may cancel before the renewal. Provide the renewal notice or invoice showing the change when contacting support. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 requires businesses to give clear reminders before auto-renewal for subscription contracts.

Death of the subscriber

To close or transfer an account after the death of a subscriber, contact support and provide a copy of the death certificate and proof of authority (executor or administrator). Figma may terminate access and, if termination is not due to breach, Figma will provide a pro rata refund of unused pre-paid fees when allowed by their terms.

Legitimate grounds and acceptable evidence

Figma accepts requests related to account ownership, fraud, billing mistakes and business closures if you provide documents such as corporate dissolution records, proof of fraud (bank or card dispute reference), or business closure notice. For Organisation plan online purchases, cancellation notice within 30 days before the end of the annual term is required to avoid renewal.

End of commitment and cooling-off

If you are on an annual Organisation or Enterprise plan billed annually the subscription ends at the term end unless renewed. For new digital subscription contracts there are two 14-day cooling-off periods under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024: one when entering a contract and a renewal cooling-off period after a trial or an auto-renewal of a 12-month or longer contract. If you cancel within a cooling-off period you are entitled to a full or proportionate refund depending on what has been supplied.

Before you cancel - negotiate

Figma's public documentation does not list standard retention discounts. To request a saving, contact [email protected] or open a billing ticket and ask for alternatives such as seat downgrades, switching to monthly billing, removing unused seats, or moving to a different seat type (for example Professional Collab seat at £5 per month). State the number of seats and your current plan and request a written offer.

What cancelling will save you - concrete yearly math

Use your existing plan pricing to calculate savings for one year.

Example calculations using Figma public prices:

• Professional Full seat monthly: £18 x 12 = £216 per year.
• Professional Full seat annual: £168 per year.
• Organization Full seat annual: £600 per year (billed annually).
• Professional (Dev seat) annual: £132 per year.
• Professional (Collab seat) annual: £36 per year.

If you cancel a single Professional Full seat that you pay monthly at £18, you save £18 x 12 = £216 per year. If you move from Professional Full annual (£168) to Starter (£0), your annual saving is £168.

Cheapest real alternative: Figma Starter is free at £0 per month and provides limited access (3 Figma files and 3 FigJam files). This is the lowest cost option from Figma. Consider alternative free tools such as Penpot at £0 if you need a no-cost external alternative.

UK consumer law that applies

Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 govern 14-day cancellation rights for distance contracts concluded online. The Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 adds two 14-day cooling-off periods for subscription contracts, including a renewal cooling-off period for contracts that auto-renew after a 12-month or longer term.

Statutory rights and refunds

Under UK law, consumers have a right to cancel a distance contract within 14 days with a refund, unless digital content has begun to be supplied with the consumer's express consent. The DMCCA specifies renewal cooling-off rights and requires businesses to provide clear pre-contract information and simple exit routes. Figma's Terms of Service state fees paid are non-refundable except where Figma terminates access for reasons not due to the customer's breach, in which case pro rata refunds may be given.

Escalation - who to contact

First raise the issue with Figma support via [email protected] or the Help Center. If unresolved, contact Citizens Advice for guidance and the Competition and Markets Authority for unfair subscription practices. For card payments you may consider a chargeback or Section 75 claim through your card issuer where eligible.

Access and data retention

After cancellation access continues until the end of the then-current subscription term. Export important files, components, styles and version history before the term ends. Download Figma files as .fig or copy designs to the free Starter plan limits if necessary.

Final billing and receipts

Expect no refund for unused time unless a statutory cooling-off period applies or Figma terminates access without customer breach. Keep your final invoice and any confirmation emails as proof of cancellation and for accounting records.

Re-activation

To re-activate, sign into your account and re-subscribe or add seats. Your files remain in Figma but may be subject to Starter plan limits if you downgrade to free. Keep credentials safe to avoid account recovery delays.

Follow this checklist to cancel cleanly and protect your data.

• Sign in to Figma and go to Settings - Billing. Turn off auto-renewal or remove paid seats.
• Take screenshots of on-screen cancellation confirmations and save any confirmation emails.
• If cancelling by email, send the request from the account owner email to [email protected] and request written confirmation.
• If you have an Organisation annual plan, ensure you give notice within 30 days before the end of the annual term when required.
• Export all files, assets and design system components before access changes: save .fig files, exported images, and copies of documentation.
• Check your card or billing statement after the term end to confirm no unexpected renewals.
• If you expect a refund under cooling-off rules, quote the relevant law and attach the cancellation evidence when contacting support.
