Cancel Babbel the easy way

Overview

Babbel is an online language learning service operated by Lesson Nine GmbH that offers structured courses, personalised lessons, interactive exercises, and podcasts to help learners develop speaking, listening and reading skills.

How Babbel works

Users choose a language course, progress through lesson units and complete exercises on the web or in the mobile app. Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled in account settings.

Company facts

Web cancellation (recommended)

1. Go to https://babbel.com/ and log in.
2. Click your profile icon, choose "Profile and settings" then "Account Information".
3. Under your subscription, click "Cancel auto-renewal". If the button is not visible, the subscription will not renew and the expiration date will be shown.
4. Keep the on-screen expiry date as proof and a screenshot of the cancellation confirmation.

iOS cancellation

1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap your name, then "Subscriptions".
3. Select Babbel from the list and tap "Cancel Subscription". Apple records the cancellation in your account.

Android cancellation

1. Open Google Play Store on your Android device.
2. Tap the profile icon, then "Payment and subscriptions" > "Subscriptions".
3. Select Babbel and tap "Cancel subscription". Google Play sends a confirmation email.

Phone cancellation / withdrawal

1. Call +49 30 568 373836 for support or to exercise withdrawal rights. Subscriptions are primarily cancelled via the account or app, but phone is available for withdrawal contact.
2. Record the call details and request written confirmation by email.

Email cancellation

1. Email [email protected] or [email protected] explaining you want to cancel or withdraw and include your account email and subscription details.
2. Save the reply as proof of cancellation or refund decision.

Cancellation by post

1. Write a signed cancellation or withdrawal statement and send by registered post to Babbel, Andreasstrae 72, 10243 Berlin, Germany.
2. Keep the registered post receipt. Allow time for processing and a written confirmation.

Cooling-off (14 day withdrawal)

If you cancel within 14 days of purchase you have the right to withdraw and receive a full refund. To withdraw, inform Babbel by email to [email protected] or by using your account settings. Babbel must reimburse all payments within 14 days of being informed. Price increase

If Babbel increases the price during an ongoing contract, check your contract and Babbel terms. Babbel's general terms include renewal rules; if the change breaches your contract you can challenge it and seek termination under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 for lack of reasonable care and skill if applicable. Provide your original subscription invoice and screenshots of the new price as proof.

Moving abroad

To cancel because you move, provide proof of relocation such as a new address or relocation documents and request termination by email. Babbel does not publish a specific relocation policy; use the general withdrawal/termination channels and include proof in your message.

Death of subscriber

To cancel after the subscriber's death, provide a copy of the death certificate and contact Babbel support by email or post requesting termination and refund where applicable.

Legitimate grounds accepted by Babbel

Babbel states withdrawal rights and standard cancellation via account. For exceptional legitimate grounds not explicitly listed, submit documentary proof (medical note, death certificate, relocation evidence) and ask for a discretionary termination or refund based on the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

End of commitment

At the end of your paid term access continues until the expiry date. You must cancel auto-renewal before the next renewal date. For Initial Service Term termination most paid services require at least 48 hours notice; during Renewal Service Term termination needs a one month notice period. Reference: Babbel Terms.

Before you cancel: negotiate

There is no public list of retention discounts published by Babbel in the research. To request a retention offer, contact [email protected] or use the in-app help after attempting cancellation. Write your account email, current plan and ask for any promotional rates or a pause. Babbel support channels include their cancellation help page.

What cancellation saves you - yearly maths

Example savings for common Babbel plans based on published UK prices:

• Individual 1 month: £16.99 monthly - Yearly cost: 16.99 x 12 = £203.88 per year.
• Individual 3 months: £12.99 monthly - Yearly cost: 12.99 x 12 = £155.88 per year.
• Individual 1 year: £6.49 monthly - Yearly cost: 6.49 x 12 = £77.88 per year (Babbel lists £77.99 as annual price).
• All Languages 12-month plan: £7.49 monthly - Yearly cost: 7.49 x 12 = £89.88 per year (Babbel lists £89.99 annual).

Key UK consumer law

The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 provide a 14 day cooling-off period for online contracts and require reimbursements within 14 days. See the Regulations.

Other protections and escalation

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires services to be performed with reasonable care and skill and prevents unfair contract terms. For unresolved disputes contact Citizens Advice, then escalate to the appropriate ombudsman if relevant. For card payments consider Section 75 or chargeback with the card issuer where eligible. Access and expiry

After cancelling auto-renewal your access continues until the subscription expiry date shown in your account. Keep a screenshot of the expiry date as proof.

Data and account

If you want your data removed, contact [email protected]. Request confirmation of data deletion and retain written proof. Account deletion does not automatically cancel a subscription paid through Apple or Google.

Final billing and refunds

If you cancelled within 14 days you are entitled to a refund. Babbel will reimburse payments within 14 days of being informed. For cancellations outside the 14 day period you keep access until expiry and refunds are not normally provided unless required by law or agreed by Babbel.
