Cancel Viaplay the easy way

Overview

Viaplay is a streaming service owned by Viaplay Group AB (publ) offering films, series and live sports. The service launched operations in the UK and bundles Nordic originals with third party content and sports rights in selected packages.

Content and sports

Viaplay sells separate packages: a low-cost Films & Series package and Total packages that include live sports. Viaplay offers Viaplay Originals alongside curated third-party films and series. Viaplay Sports is also available as an Amazon Prime Video add-on.

Platforms and trials

Viaplay works on web browsers, smart TVs, mobile apps and via partners such as Amazon Prime Video and Virgin Media. The Films & Series package includes a 7-day free trial for new subscribers where that trial is available.

Cancel via Web (recommended)

1. Open a web browser and sign in to your Viaplay account at your account page.
2. Go to My account and select Package information.
3. Choose Cancel package and follow the on-screen steps until you receive an on-screen confirmation.
4. Save a screenshot of the confirmation and keep the confirmation email sent by Viaplay.
5. Access continues until the last day of your current payment period.

Cancel via iOS / Apple subscriptions

1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
2. Tap your Apple ID at the top, then Subscriptions.
3. Select Viaplay from the list and tap Cancel Subscription or End Subscription.
4. Keep the Apple confirmation email as proof.

Cancel via Android / Google Play

1. Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device.
2. Tap your profile icon > Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions.
3. Select Viaplay and tap Cancel subscription, then follow the prompts.
4. Save the Google Play confirmation email or screenshot.

Cancel via TV provider or partner

1. Identify which partner bills you: Amazon Prime Video, Virgin Media or another provider (check your card statement).
2. Cancel the Viaplay add-on or subscription through the partner account or billing portal.
3. Partner cancellations do not appear on Viaplay account pages; keep the partner confirmation.

Cancel by Email or Post

1. If you prefer written notice, send a signed request to the Viaplay London postal address: Viaplay, Chiswick High Road, W4 5RU London, United Kingdom.
2. Include your account email, full name, and a clear statement to cancel the package.
3. Keep proof of postage or delivery and allow 48-72 hours for processing after Viaplay receives it.

Moving abroad or to a region without Viaplay

If you move outside an area where your Viaplay package is offered, contact customer support and provide proof of your new address such as a utility bill or tenancy agreement. Viaplay's published materials do not list a specific automatic exception, so provide supporting documents and request cancellation. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 where relevant to contracts concluded online.

Price increase

If Viaplay increases the price of your ongoing contract and you do not accept the change, you can cancel. You should keep a copy of the price increase notification and the date you notified Viaplay you reject the increase. Applicable law: Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 and Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 regarding renewal cooling-off rights; see section 261 and the cooling-off provisions in the 2024 Act at cooling-off rights.

Death of the subscriber

Viaplay's help pages do not publish a specific bereavement policy. To cancel in the event of the subscriber's death, send a signed request with a copy of the death certificate and proof of identity of the person requesting cancellation to the London postal address. If charges continue and you used a card, escalate to your card issuer for possible refund or chargeback.

Legitimate ground (material change of service)

If Viaplay permanently removes major content you subscribed for or loses sports rights that materially change the service, you may have grounds to cancel and claim a refund for future charges. Keep written notice from Viaplay showing the change and your cancellation request. Applicable law: Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

End of commitment

If your package includes a commitment period (for example Total Annual with a 12-month commitment), cancellation will only take effect after the commitment period ends. Charges for the remainder of the commitment will remain payable as stated in Viaplay's terms. This is published by Viaplay: "If your package has a commitment period, cancellation only takes effect once the commitment period has ended."

Cooling-off period (14 days)

For online purchases, you have a 14-day cooling-off right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. The right to a refund is extinguished if you explicitly consent to immediate performance of digital content (for example when you start streaming and accept loss of the right). Exercise cooling-off by notifying the trader in writing within 14 days to obtain a refund if eligible. Applicable law: Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

Before you cancel: negotiate

There are no widely published reports of standard retention discounts published by Viaplay in the research data. To ask for a retention offer contact Viaplay via the account cancellation flow and state that you are considering leaving because of price or content. Ask explicitly for a retention offer, a temporary discount, or a downgrade to Films & Series. If you are billed by a partner, contact the partner for retention options.

Key consumer law in the United Kingdom

Relevant laws are the Consumer Rights Act 2015, the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 and the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024. The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 grant a 14-day cooling-off right for most contracts concluded online, with exceptions for digital content where the consumer consented to immediate performance.

Auto-renewal, unfair terms and escalation

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) scrutinises hard-to-cancel subscriptions and unclear auto-renewal terms as potential unfair practices.
